Do people ever get used to Israeli heat?
Well, to some degree (or to some degrees), yes. They say that our veins and capillaries constrict or adjust themselves to varying temperatures. The general body metabolism learns to deal with the greater impact of the heat. People can probably adjust to just about anything.
However, although we may get used to the heat, we do not function as well as if there were no intense heat. People may go about their business as well as possible, but productivity decreases, while tension and tantrums increase.
No, the country does not close down during the hot months (although everybody seems to be on vacation during the last two weeks of August), but those hot months last for a good part of the year. It may still be hot well into November.
That means that your guests from an area that is even hotter than yours may ask you to turn off your air conditioner.
There are ways of getting back at them. Think how many things you can do with an ice cube.
