Are you expected to bring gifts when you come to Israel?
The short answer is "no."
You will be welcomed even if you come empty-handed.
Your reasons for bringing gifts to Israelis should be similar to your reasons for bringing gifts to anybody else.
Israelis do not expect you to "support" them with your gifts. Any support that they do receive from abroad will be irrelevant to your gift.
You may choose to bring gifts as a friendly good-will gesture, just as you would do when you visit some people in your own home town. In that case, you would want to do the same when you visit Israelis. And, in both cases, you would want to bring something that would be appreciated, and not just a useless knick-knack that would clutter up our small homes.
