It's not a thesaurus. Its a synonym finder.
It's another one of Microsoft's misnomers. "Font" is another one - it should be "typeface." Font means something different.
If you think the writer of these lines is smart enough to use all the big words in this chapter, you're grievously mistaken. Whoops - "Grievously." That's another word that has been used incorrectly. "Grievously" is not the same as "badly." Word's thesaurus messed it up again.
Well, here's the way to make your own mistakes, thanks to Microsoft:
Place the I-beam (the mouse pointer) inside a simple word, such as "big."
Click on Tools, Language, Thesaurus or press Shift-F7. You can also right-click on the word and choose Synonym from the pop-up menu.
Synonym does not only mean "synonym," of course. The misnamed Thesaurus feature may also show you antonyms of your original word.
The options are grouped by meanings on one side and by synonyms on the other side.
Hightlight your favorite choice and click "Replace." If you don't like the choices that are offered, click Cancel.
You can also continue your search. Select a word from among the synonyms that are offered, and click on the Look Up button. You'll get synonyms of your synonyms.
