There are other ways to adjust the length of articles, in order to make them fit.
The following combination of tricks can let help you create a newsletter that fills the space allotted to the articles in an optimal manner.
You can adjust the size of the typeface or of the type style. A minor adjustment in the point size might not be noticeable. Some typesetting programs allow you to adjust the font in half-point increments. Experiment with this feature - it might make the difference that you need. Be sure to select the entire article before adjusting the typeface. In addition, consider whether the document will be converted to a different format in the future. Adobe PDF, for example, sometimes does not accept half-point sizing. In other cases, it may accept half-sizes, but corrupt the formatting of the document when doing so.
Word has a feature called Shrink to Fit on its Page Preview menu. Use that option as a way to start adjusting the page length, after which you can manually adjust the sizing to your convenience.
Does your program allow you to make minor adjustments to the width of the columns? Although a small adjustment of one or two millimeters may not be noticeable, it could make a difference of a few lines in the article. If the article is continued on a second page, then you might be able to fine-tune the column width on one page but not on the second.
Of course, if you cannot edit out material in a long article, then you can also adjust the space between the columns in order to give you more room. You might also want to adjust in the space between the individual characters.
The typeface itself may make a difference. Each typeface takes up a different amount of room in the final product. Choose one that offers you just the right amount of room for your article. However, don't be reckless with this feature. Too many typefaces make the newsletter look childish, and the "wrong" typeface may affect the impact of your message.
