Weekend Thoughts

    This week has gone by with the celebration of our nation's Independence Day.  I hope that all Americans appreciate what our forefathers have died and fought for, to uphold our liberty and personal freedom.  Remember that we have "unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." - Declaration of Independence  We must watch out for the Liberals, watch out for their world, "...the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth." - The Matrix  Have a good weekend.

The World's Smallest Political Quiz

    Okay, I know that this is pretty shabby update but please take this quiz and tell me you score in the forum or the guestbook.  Here are the questions for the test:

Personal Issues

Military service should be voluntary (no draft).

Government should not control radio, TV, the press, or the Internet.

Repeal regulations on sex for consenting adults.

Drug laws do more harm than good. Repeal them.

Let peaceful people cross borders freely.

Economic Issues

Businesses and farms should operate without government subsidies.

People are better off with free trade than with tariffs.

Minimum wage laws cause unemployment. Repeal them.

End taxes. Pay for services with user fees.

All foreign aid should be privately funded.

    I don't know why...but I always keep on coming up with Libertarian when I take this quiz.  Does anybody know why?

This update will be fairly short and I promise I won't make this into a "book report."  I didn't like to do them when I was in school so why should I start now?  Okay, here we go...

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand

    I don't know if you realize that the teachings of Ayn Rand have had some major influence on the Libertarian Party.  Don't worry, I won't bore you about the details of how her work influenced the Libertarian Party, however, I will mention one thing about this book that I happened to pick off the shelf of my bookcase, The Fountainhead.  So far one quote, in the all two pages that I have read, had me thinking very deeply in what is happening to the people in America, but first I will give you the quote.  This is taken from a scene where the character, Howard Roark, stands at the edge of a cliff:

"These rocks, he thought, are here for me; waiting for the drill, the dynamite and my voice; waiting to be split, ripped, pounded, reborn; waiting for the shape my hands will give them." - Ayn Rand

    Why do I think that this is so profound?  Why do I take interest in this one quote that stands out from the rest of the other statements that Howard Roark makes?  Superficially we can tell that Ayn Rand expounds her feelings that if there are resources available from nature, then from our ability we can use this to mold and shape the earth into whatever we want.  What we don't know is that Ayn Rand has exalted Mr. Roark into another plane of man's ego.  Yes, we do control mother nature, however it is the individual's belief in himself that can only accomplish this task.  The feeling that we are "Master's of the Universe" (although we know that engineers hold this title) gives us the power to mold and control nature.  Ayn Rand teaches us that man can do anything if only he believes in himself.  Maybe for this reason this quote caught my attention and made me hold back further reading to think about the meaning of this statement.  This relates to our everyday lives where we have left-leaning people trying to break down the almighty individual.  We are a free nation, and what makes us unique is our individualism.  Why would we want to categorize people and impose quotas to accept certain races or colors for work or school, instead of looking at their personal ability and knowledge?  Why do we celebrate diversity, doesn't it just divide us further to try to point out how different we are?  You are a person and an individual, believe in yourself and you can make changes in somebody's life and in affect, the world.  If you have to be cocky about it...that is fine too...

The 4th of July...

Okay, this update may offend, so good!  But, be warned.

    Where do you live?  I bet you live in the United States of America, the home of the free and the free to make your home.  What have you seen in the past couple of years that seems so prevalent in our daily lives?  I don't know about you, but there seems to be an influx of immigrants that our government allows the same benefits we have as Americans.  What we don't know is that they carry their own Patriotism.  I tell you people, their loyalty is not to the greatest nation on the planet, the United States of America, but maybe to some other country where most of their relatives reside.  What we are seeing is the watering down of our way of life and culture.  I do not know about you, but I believe that if people are going to hold the right to call themselves CITIZENS of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, then they must learn what our country stands for and take an oath to loyalty.  If they don't like it, then tough luck...they can go and see if they like living in Russia, or maybe even better yet Communist China.  However, how are we suppose to accomplish this task when our own people do not know our founding fathers of this nation?  How are we suppose to teach these immigrants of our country when the person that teaches cannot even name their Senators, Congressman, or even the President of the United States?  I don't know about you, but when I hear our National Anthem play or some emotional soldier recount what he went through to uphold our freedom, frankly I get sort of choked up.  I get a deep inner sense feeling of respect and the need to share that emotion with that person or persons.  We as Americans need to hold dear those documents that have given us our Right to Liberty, Right to Personal Property, and the Right to the Pursuit of Happiness.  We should be willing to fight for our country in the wake of invasion of a country or ideal that counters the freedoms given to us by our forefathers.  We should stand up to what we believe in and have our voices heard...WE ARE AMERICANS...if not by birthright then by PRINCIPLE and BELIEF of the right to FREEDOM.  I have had my say, now it is up to you to show your true colors on this INDEPENDENCE DAY, the 4th of July.  Have fun out there, take care, eat lots of barbecue, and expect an update on Thursday.  BE PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN.

Poem of the Day

Liberty Tree

IN a chariot of light from the regions of day,
The Goddess of Liberty came;
Ten thousand celestials directed the way,
And thither conducted the dame,
This fair budding branch, from the garden above,
Where millions with millions agree;
She bro't in her hand, as a pledge of her love,
The plant she call'd Liberty Tree.

This celestial exotic struck deep in the ground,
Like a native it flourish'd and bore;
The fame of its fruit, drew the nations around,
To seek out its peaceable shore.
Unmindful of names or distinction they came,
For freemen like brothers agree:
With one sprit endow'd, they one friendship pursued,
And their temple was Liberty Tree.

Beneath this fair branch, like the patriarchs of old,
Their bread, in contentment they eat;
Unwearied with trouble, of silver or gold,
Or the cares of the grand and the great.
With timber and tar, they old England supplied,
Supported her power on the seas;
Her battles they fought, without having a groat,
For the honor of Liberty Tree.

But hear, O ye swains, ('tis a tale the most profane)
How all they tyrannical powers,
King, Commons, and Lords are uniting amain,
To cut down this guardian of ours;
From the east to the west, blow the trumpet to arms,
Thro' the land let the sound of it flee,
Let the far and the near, -all unite with a cheer,
In defense of our Liberty Tree.

- Thomas Paine

The Week of 4th of July

    It is finally here.  The 4th of July week that includes celebration of the independence of our great nation.  We get to watch fireworks in the sky, grill some hot dogs and hamburgers, wave our United States flags in the air, and a day off from summer school.  Believe me, this 4th of July break comes during a time when it is most needed for those of us that are taking summer school.  Tomorrow we will talk more of this joyous occasion however, don't expect an update on the 4th of July.  I can smell that barbecue as I type this update...mmmmm.

Stop Looking Over My Shoulder!!!

    Has our privacy been invaded?  Are we victims of a crime that steals our personal freedom to a right of privacy?  Can you find cases of how the government invades our privacy unknowing to its citizens?  Of course not, otherwise it would defeat the purpose of invading your privacy.  If you know that somebody was going to invade your privacy, then I hope you would try to stop them at all costs.  However, if you didn't know that your privacy was being invaded then how would you know who to stop and when?  Take for example the United States Post Office that delivers your mail everyday.  Are they invading your privacy as you wait in line counting your money?  Who is to say that they aren't profiling you as a drug dealer as you count your own money that you have to send to Aunt Frieda for her debilitating disease?  How are you sure that they aren't filling out a form while you stand there waiting for the next clerk to send off that money?  Well fellow Americans, they ARE filling out their forms for those customers that send large denomination money orders or count a large wad of cash.  What is so wrong about it?  Well if you take a look at the form it has a statement at the top saying, "Without alerting customers provide as much of the following information as possible."  Is this an invasion of privacy?  It sure is an invasion of privacy and it should be stopped.  It even says, "Without alerting the customer.."  How many of these forms have your name on it?  Take a look at this form here.  Maybe you want to distribute these to those that are standing in line at the post office and ask them, "Has your name been on one of these?"

Quotes of the Day

"An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come." - Victor Hugo

"The illegal we do immediately. The unconstitutional takes a little longer." - Henry Kissinger

"That government is best which governs least." - Henry David Thoreau

"If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts." - Albert Einstein
