  • Self-portrait
Clive Francis has had a long and successful career as a caricaturist.

He's had two exhibits at the National Theatre, illustrated the books of others, and done cover art for book jackets. He's also had four books of his caricatures published, with another on the way.

His books are: Laugh Lines (1989), Sir John: The Many Faces of John Gielgud (1995), There is Nothing Like A Dane, the Lighter Side of Hamlet (1998), and There is Nothing Like a Thane, the Lighter Side of Macbeth (2001).
[For more information on these titles, see The Books File.]

More examples of Clive Francis' caricatures:

For the 2001 Christmas season, Clive Francis designed this Christmas card for Crusaid, the UK's official charity for AIDS and HIV.
From the Judi Dench website: 'If you recently attended Amy's View on Broadway, you would have found a curious flyer, titled "A Gala Tribute to 'Her Majesty the Queen,'" with a funny caricature of an Elizabethan monarch tucked inside your program.

The flyer was an advertisement for a benefit ceremony in which Judi Dench, star of Amy's View and Oscar-winner as QEI in Shakespeare in Love, has been named this year's recipient of the Washington DC Shakespeare Guild's Sir John Gielgud Award for Excellence in the Dramatic Arts.'

This is the cover of a book called A Two Hander, by Sara Kestelman & Susan Penhaligon, cost 6.99. Now out of print, it was described in 1996 as: "It's 'a new and impressive poetry dbut from two of Britain's most acclaimed actresses. A refreshing and revealing mix of styles and subjects, with each writer complementing the other perfectly. Cover caricature from Clive Francis."
This picture is from Ian McKellen's Official website. It's an illustration from the 1984 production of the play Wild Honey. McKellen's site is very nice, very professional.

All illustrations maintain their original copyright and are shown here for reference and review. Clive has provided these, so please don't copy them without permission.
