DVD - Digital Versatile Disks have stormed onto the personal computing scene, at least for Windows users. I was once one of those enjoying my Creative Encore 5x DVD Rom kit in my unstable Windows environment, and was quite content for the most part. Then came linux. Apparently I could no longer watch DVD's on my computer for the sole reason I have chosen a different operating system than the mainstream. Many banded together to get the drivers, kernel patches, and other software together so we could once again enjoy watching DVD's in Linux! This HOWTO will point you to the many resources on the internet about DVD playback, and how to get your Creative DXR2/Encore 5X kit up and running in Linux.

This HOWTO is written around the Creative DXR2/Encore 5X DVD ROM kit. So I am only going to concentrate on that for now. As more information comes in I will be more than happy to include it.
With that in mind assume the instructions are for just the Creative Encore 5X.
