The World's Hidden Hope


The year is 2005. It has been 10 years since the First Burst. Ten years since over 900 men and women across the globe gained superhuman abilities. Two years ago the Second Burst arrived, and it changed the face of humanity even further. This time over 3000 men and women were transformed, and those that had gained abilities before it became even more powerful. The Bursts ignored race, religion, gender, age, even disability. They both knocked all of humanity out for exactly one hour. Over three thousand died between the two, caught in traffic accidents, boiler explosions, and one in a nuclear meltdown in Eastern Canada.

However from the disasters of the Bursts have arisen the Deviants, men and women given phenomenal super human abilities from these mysterious forces of nature. Divided into three types: Freak, Savant, Wyrd, the Deviants create manipulate Phenomenological Energy Fields, the very building blocks of the universe. Their subgrouping seems to determine how they use these energies. Freaks have the amazing ability to alter their bodies and the bodies of others. They can grow wings and fly, regenerate all but a death wound, shapeshift, and alter their pheremones to become irresistable to the opposite sex, to name a few of the abilities these Deviants have manifested. Savants have the strange and frightening abilities granted by their altered brains. They can read minds, see the future, and process information a hundred times faster than a normal man. They are psychics, geniuses, subtle manipulators, and nervously enhanced gun slingers. Perhaps the most frightening type of Deviant, they are also the least evident. Finally, Wyrds are possibly the most powerful Deviants in existance. Their powers enable them to manipulate external energies. All external energies. Fire, electricity, kinetic energy, even the force of entropy, which causes things to fall apart, is at their command.

But people fear these superhumans, these "Deviants". Who wouldn't? The Bursts didn't only give powers to patriotic Americans or peace loving Buddhists, it gave powers to criminal geniuses, fanatical terrorists, and even normal men and women who reached the descision that they are above humans, and thus are not subject to the laws of men. Because of this Deviants are oppresed, they have few civil rights. They are forced to register themselves and live under the yoke of a society that hates them.

However, all is not lost! A Resistance arises! They will free their Deviant brothers from the chains of oppression! They will be stars! They will be leaders! They. Will. Be. Heroes!

This is their story! This is the story of a nation within nations. It is the story of a people who said "No more!" It is the story of how a race of beings rose up to become the world's hidden hope, the hope that they refused to see. A race of people who rose up...From the Ashes


From the Ashes: The Game

From the Ashes is an alternate setting for White Wolf Studios' role playing game Aberrant. In Aberrant people play the roles of Novas, superhuman beings who are practically worshipped by the world. From the Ashes, however, portrays a different world view. Deviants are feared for what they can, and becuase of the oppression that they live under a small Resistance movement has sprung up. Players in FtA play members of this Resistance.
