What is a Lacanian response?

A Lacanian response centers around how and why a person responds to very specific sentences and individual words in a written work. Basically, you look inside youself to find why you reacted a certain way to a certain scene, character, or phrase in the book. Doing this is often painful, and requires people to look at themselves and their past objectively--deliberately looking for things have made them the way they are today.
