In my year 10 school art class we had to do a mixed media painting for a competition at Princess Margaret Childrens Hospital. We had to follow the theme of caring and sharing which at the time I thought was pretty dumb, but I came to the conclusion that some of the sick children in hospital sometimes loose hope in getting better and I wanted to show that beneath the sadness there is hope.
I drew the girl in my drawing/painting in pencil, using the tones of grey to show her loss of hope and sadness, but her eyes are an explosion of colour to show that behind the guise of sadness there is hope. Around her face there are symbols of a happier place which I painted using water colour. The overall effect of the painting was really good I thought.
