Earth Day, and at a sold-out stadium, a concert of many recording artists did a special Earth Day concert. On stage, we find The Power Is Yours, a new rock band consisting of Kwame (drums/tympani), Wheeler (bass guitar/rap vocals) & on lead vocals/electric guitar, Captain Planet. How did they become a rock band?
It started when The Planeteers were on the Geo-Curiser coming from a Sky Runner concert. Sky was a friend of theirs. Wheeler was piloting the Geo-Cruiser as Linka & Gi were talking about the concert.
"Wasn't Sky Runner great?" sighed Gi.
"Da!" Linka agreed, "He's the best when he does songs concerning the environment. I'd like to play keys in his band."
"Sky Runner, Sky Runner." grumbled Wheeler who's jealous. Ma-Ti secretly used his heart power ring to see what's troubling Wheeler.
"Looks like Wheeler's very jealous." said Ma-Ti, "If you feel this way, why not start a band of your own."
Linka & Gi laughed.
"Wheeler, a rock star?" she said chuckling, "All he ever does is watch sexy babes on ROCK-TV music videos. He's always a spectator, never a doer."
"Oh yeah!" snapped Wheeler, "Before I was ever a Planeteer, I hung out with a youth group from Brooklyn. A friend played bass guitar & he taught me how to play & pop the bass. I bet I could start a combo, teach Kwame how to play an American set of drums. And have the Cap man be my lead singer/guitarist."
"Captain Planet would never agree to do it, it contributes to noise polution." pointed Kwame.
"Then I'll come up with an idea to get Cap in the band." said Wheeler.
At Hope Island, Wheeler's in his hut. He went underneath his bed to grab his bass guitar case. Then he got out his bass, polished it & tuned it up. Then he plugged it into his amp & started jamming. Wheeler's a very good bass player. However, Gaia appeared & said,
"I hate to discourage your musical ability, but turn it down!"
"Impressed Gaia?" asked Wheeler then stops.
"I'd be more impress if that bass amp had a headphone outlet. Why not practice with headphones one."
As Gaia disappeared, Wheeler got some headphones from his stereo & attached them to his bass guitar amp. Then he started jamming again.
Hours later, Wheeler was cruisin on his Eco-Cycle trying to find Kwame. He saw another Eco-Cycle parked @ a cave. Wheeler got off & entered the cave. He grabbed a torch & lit it.
"FIRE!"
As he dent deep into the cave, he heard tribal drum music. He was surprised to find Kwame playing an American set of drums.
"COOL!" exclaimed Wheeler, "My main dude's playing a set of drums!"
Kwame was upset, "I was saving this as a surprise for your birthday!" stops playing, "Wheeler, could you teach me how to use the foot pedals?"
Wheeler taught Kwame how to use the bass drum & hi-hat pedals & was quick to learn.
"Sorry to ruin your surprise."
"Wheeler, if you want me in the band, you have to do something for me." said Kwame.
Kwame got Wheeler to excercise. They would wear Guts Swim Briefs swimming & pumping iron. Kwame would pump Wheeler up by playing snare drum rolls when he did floor excercises.
One day when Wheeler was swimming in the lagoon, he heard singing. Someone was taking a shower in the waterfall. Wheeler got out of the water & discovered that there were red boots & briefs.
"Captain Planet's singing!" exclaimed Wheeler.
Just as Cap got out of the shower, he put his briefs on & then discovered his boots were gone. He saw an Eco-Cycle & flew over to catch the culprit.
"Hand over the boots, Wheeler." Wheeler handed his boots, then putting them on. Then he asked,
"Why did you do that?"
"I wanted to talk to you, Cap!" said Wheeler,
"I've been working on song ideas & getting a combo together. You'd make a great lead singer, maybe you can play the guitar."
"Captain Planet doesn't rock & wouldn't contirbute to noise polution." he said. Then he flew & cried, "The Power Is Yours!"
But Captan Planet didn't disappear, he went to Wheeler's hut. He looked @ his sheet music & saw what Wheeler wrote.
"Wheeler doing eco-songs?" said Captain Planet, "I guess he was serious about this band."
Weeks later, The Planeteers were invited to Sky Runner's house for a weekend stay. They were impressed with his house, especially with his own recording studio.
As the girls & Ma-Ti went on a nature hike, Kwame's messing on percussion instruments in the studio. He played a set of drums, then some congas & finally the tympani. When he played, he told Wheeler,
"Check this out!"
He took off his ring & shouted, "EARTH!"
Kwame played a hard tympani drum roll. When Sky entered the studio, Kwame stopped.
"I didn't know you caould play, Kwame." he said as Kwame stopped playing & put his earth ring back on.
"Sky, could we talk?" asked Wheeler.
They went outside & Wheeler asked, "Could I borrow your tympani?"
"Why?"
"Sky, how would you like to sign your band for your record company? Kwame & I got a band, I play bass. I'm hoping to get Cap in the band."
"What type of music?" asked Sky.
"Rock, hip hop, rap. All our songs are eco-songs." explained Wheeler.
"Wheeler, you get me a demo tape & I'll decide if you're good enough. Meanwhile, you could borrow my tympani. I never use it."
Weeks later, Wheeler had his birthday. We find him with Linka as they're having a romantic dinner.
"Wheeler, I'm very proud of your songwriting.
Doing songs about the envrionment." said Linka. "Yeah," said Wheeler, "If only I could get Cap in the band."
"Wheeler," Linka explained, "What if Captain
Planet joined the band & while you were giving a concert, Hoggish Greedley ruins the show by spraying him with a toxic ray gun!"
"I never thought about that." said Wheeler. Just then, silky electric guitar music was heard from a distance.
"Let's dance." siad Linka as they got up from the table & started dancing. Wheeler was wondering where the music came from.
At the Crystal Chamber, Captain Planet's playing an eco-electric guitar.
"Sure hope Wheeler appreciates this." he said playing, "Playing the guitar is relaxing, I'd like to join Wheeler's band."
Wheeler & Linka were kissing until Gaia interrupted them.
"I need you @ the Crystal Chamber. It's an eco-emergency!"
Wheeler moaned as Linka grabbed him & took him to the Crystal Chamber. When they arrived, Wheeler was surprised it's a birthday party for him. And to top it off, he saw Captain Planet playing guitar & singing.
"COOL!" yelled Wheeler as Cap shook his hand.
Then Gaia gave Wheeler a special gift, a 5-jeweled ring.
"Wheeler," she explained, "It takes 5 Planeteers to summon Captain Planet. This ring has all 5 powers to summon Captain Planet. Use it for good."
"I suppose asking the Cap for band practice is out!" sighed Wheeler.
Captain Planet told him, "Wheeler, you can use it for music. I read your music & lyrics, you're really talented. I'd be proud to join your band. But why a trio?"
"I like boy band trios." said Wheeler.
For weeks, Wheeler, Kwame & Captain Planet had band practice. They used solar amps to save electricity. They worked on their music until they recorded their demo tape for Sky Runner.
At his house, he played the demo tape for him. Sky was impressed.
"I can't believe you put your mind into this." then he got an idea, "I got an upcoming gig for an Earth Day concert fest. How would you like to play @ that concert?"
"COOL!"
"You got a name for the band?" he asked.
Wheeler said, "Just call us The Power Is Yours!"
Now we pick up the story @ the concert as The Power Is Yours is on stage. They play a rock beat as Captain Planet played his eco-electric guitar & sang,
"Summer's here & the school doors are locked. Swimming & surfing & listening to music that rocks.
When you soak up that good old sun, Here's a message that has to be said. Don't soak too long or the ozone will turn you red.
If you want a tan to look cool to your friends. Don't lie so long, you'll get it in the end. Some sunblock lotion's a remedy or suntan oil from the feet to your head. Protect your bob from the ozone's red.
(Cap plays guitar solo, then Wheeler's bass solo)
Get your radical shades & put them on your eyes, As you look real cool, I'm not telling you lies. Or get your own shade, lie around on your beach towel spread,
Protect yourself from the ozone red!" Big finish as Cap plays guitar solo with Kwame playing tympani drum roll! Fans cheered @ the new band. Captain Planet was porud of Wheeler. Cap announced,
"For our final song, here's an eco-song Wheeler wrote."
The band plays a funky rap beat.
WHEELER: (Raps) Yo, dude! Wheeler here. The bass playing/rapping Planeteer. With my main dude Kwame, an awesome drummer. And super dude Cap, my guitar strummer. Got another message to rap & share, Clean up that polluted air. Going to a mall, park or school, Just remember our eco-rule. Gilde on a skateboard, ride a bike. Or even walk, take a hike. Going somewhere that's really far, Hop on a bus, not in a car. Carpooling's another way, To cut fumes on the freeway. Your parents understand by that solution, To kill the bogus air we call polution.
CAPT. PLANET: (Singing) Smog hog, let's breathe in the fresh air. Don't be a smog hog. Show grown-ups that you care. Let's make our Earth a better place to live, Come on, plant trees, that's something to give.
(Kwame plays a cool drum solo)
KWAME: (Raps) When you grow up to be 16, You want to drive, you know what I mean. Wanna look cool in your car, Keep it tuned up, you'll go very far. When you get your license to drive, Use less gas & cruise @ 55.
WHEELER: (Raps) Drive safely, the rules are cool. Don't impress to act like a fool. A motorcycle's awesome it's rad & hot. A real gas guzzler (bass slide) NOT! When you drive that bike, here's one sure bet, Always wear your protective helmet! There's one more thing we want to strive,
ALL 3: DON'T YOU EVER DRINK & DRIVE! Captain planet plays guitar solo. Then Wheeler pops a bass solo. And as Kwame plays his drum solo, Wheeler gets off his bass, picks up some drumsticks & starts crashing cymbals. Cap watches as Kwame gets off the drums & Wheeler plays a drum solo. Then Kwame plays a super tympani solo!
The fans cheered as the band left the stage. Backstage, girls were screaming & surrounding Wheeler kissing him & asking for autographs.
"Man, I love being a rock star!" said Wheeler as the others sighed. But girls also asked for autographs from Kwame & Captain Planet as well.
