This is not a class so you didnt miss one. There has been some interest in the way I treat my no waist band slacks. It doesnt roll, stretch out or ever get uncomfortable!
First.. Im quite short and dont like to break the verticle line in the middle over my waist line.. and usually wear an over blouse, jacket or vest anyway. So dont want the unecessary bulk of a waist band on my slacks.
I draft the pant using the NONE for the waist band. A 5/8in seam allowance is chosen. I serge a narrow rolled edge along the raw edge.
Then I fold over the seam allowance and press to make a clear crease at exactly 5/8th in. I let it cool and turn it back up.
I apply 1 1/2 in wide bias cut wigan which is fused to the wrong side with the top edge just under the fold line. I dont stitch at this time.
I then fold over the seam allowance (which has a finished raw edge) (its been pressed once so it behaves.) I then place a single layer of seam tape over the seam allowance.PRESS. I top stich what would be the middle of the seam tape. (this is not along the very top edge by the fold.. Im saving that spot.
I then top stitch again at the very bottom edge of the seam tape. PRESS
Now I add the facing( pre finish the bottom raw edge by serging again.) stitch right sides together PRESS fold over PRESS .. and grade the bottom layer of the seam.. Now top stitch as close to the top edge as possible. PRESS
From the outside you have 3 fairly close rolls of top stitching but no apparent bulk.
On the inside you have a freely moving facing or lining.
The no waistband, stays in place.. doesnt stretch out, does NOT roll over and is not at all bulky. If my fashion fabric is a nice wool and a little thick or stiff I face with something lighter or a lining fabric.
If the slacks are to be lined instead of facing I apply the lining like normal but the waist band has still been secured thru the wigan and seam binding steps.
These graphics as you can surely tell are not the product of our darling MegArt... !!! GGGG
