We will plan from start to finish the style lines, accessories, notions, linings, interfacings , cutting, sewing and construction tips... PLEASE, please ADD YOUR FINDINGS TO THE POSTS......if YOU DONT WANT YOUR FINDING TO BE ADDED TO THE ON GOING CLASS PROJECT NOTES SAY SO UP FRONT. Or i will add them periodically ( daily, a cpl times a week whatever it takes.)
I would ask you to preface your subject line on the discussion list with the Fur or FS ( for Fur shop.. te hee)
So that disinterested posters can delete our messages which I think will get very exciting!
So.. first lets get motivated and inspired...
good sources for inspiration:

Once you have a design in mind plan your fabric....what color, length of hair.. what is the usage.. formal dress, casual wear around town...after 6 only....winter day elegance, fun fur jacket...

Ok ladies, Kaaren asked for my my 2 cents worth. There's one thing you can be doing before we get the coat add-on. Go try-on shopping at a good furrier or faux fur store.
I went to Donna Salyers near Cincinnati, which allowed me to smell and feel
her fabric before purchasing, but any good store will do. The goal is to decide
which style you like in fur--quite different than in wool. Try on different styles, colors, etc.
I learned that I liked the very classical coat with a deep bias cut shawl collar. I was able to try on the same coat in "white mink," "ranch mink," and "sable." It is amazing what the different furs do to the look of the same coat.
Trust me, in the white mink, I looked like a snowman! I also tried on a few more trendy styles, and decided that they just weren't right for me.
Happy trying on!
Kathryn
I can say this would be a great fun afternoon.... leave the kids at home.........go out and pamper yourself... and since you are shopping even if it is snoop shopping.. dress up, put on lipstick, have a small tape measure in your pocket/purse spritz on a LITTLE cologne..and head for the best hi end shop you can find......
Visit the web sites...your favorite fabric shops.. and just see if they even carry fur hooks.. you may have to mail order.. I will be presenting a list of sources before we actually get going... (additional sources WELCOME!!!)
Pick up a fashion magazine that youve thumbed thru and know some fur is in there... take it to the pool, or snuggle up in bed a few minutes early have a cold sweet tea a pencil and some blank paper.......copy, trace, draw some lines......(hey.. this drawing isnt going to be framed and put in the Met unless your are our darling Meg....its to give you some basic shapes and outlines so you can choose the right silhouette.)
That will be the start of your design sheet.
On this you will add all the details you might need... what closures to use, neckline, sleeve length, ease, when finished then and only then can you start thinking supplies.
When you have fallen in love with the right color and type of fur... we will have to determine the yardage required........and where to get the all important lining......and how much we need.
Dont forget the cocoon wrap.........some of you may really like that and its much less detailed to make than a set in sleeve coat.......the instructions are already up on my web page under 2.5 classes......I made one in jet black fairly long staple mink and its the most fabulous wrap I have......you can still tag along on our project using the tips for cutting and construction.
I hope lots of you will join us on this project slated to start in September........just in time for cool weather wear....(oh heck.. you southern gals can just turn up the air to a deadly chill and wear em at home........te hee).. or carry it over your arm on warmer winter days......trailing it on the floor ala Garbo or Mae West
(just check that its carpeted and CLEAN)
Any project that is advanced planned is smoother.. pattern making, designing and constructing a garment is a lot of decisions.. from the fabric, color, texture, to the choice of neckline, sleeve type, ease amounts, interfacings and linings, closures and so on..by starting a design early you get to make those decisions over a period of time so it is not so "overwhelming" and after thinking about things you might want to make revisions.. avoiding the need to revise after you have started cutting is better than NICE... we will discuss ways to plan your fabric yardage and layout.
Start dreaming up your dream coat.......
Its time to think outrageous.................Have FUN!!!

Have fun!!!!
