"Okay, Shinji, Rei, that's good enough for now. Go get changed and then report back to the briefing room for the results of the synch test," Dr. Akagi announced over the comm as she had her staff stop the test. "Hai," they both replied. Shinji and Rei showered, got changed, and reported back to the briefing room. "So, how'd we do, Akagi-sensei," Shinji asked as thefy entered. "Well, Rei, you've increased by .2% up to 63.7%, and Shinji-kun, you've dropped 1.8 points. Is there a problem?" she inquired with eyebrows raised. "N-not really, Akagi-san, just couldn't c-concentrate," he replied nervously. "Are we finished?" "Yes. You may go home now." As Shinji and Rei got to the door, Dr. Akagi called out after them. "Wait, Shinji-kun, I almost forgot." Shinji turned back as Rei stepped out into the hall. "The Commander wants you to come to his office." Shinji nodded and left. As he walked into the hallway and started towards his father's office, he muttered, "Father..." When he reached the office doors, he timidly knocked twice. He waited for a few moments, then heard someone inside call out "Enter." Shinji opened the doors and walked in slowly, squinting to try and see in the darkened office. Shinji approached his father's desk and waited nervously in front of it. Finally, after what seemed to be an eternity to Shinji, Ikari Gendo broke the silence. "I loved your mother very much." Shinji, who hadn't been expecting anything like that, simply stood there dumbly, and all he could say was, "So did I." His father coninued. "However, I didn't even care for her until after we were married. She was just a tool to obtain my current position." Shinji, used to hearing (and thinking) such things about his father, didn't reply. He wasn't shocked one bit. He simply stood there, waiting for his father to get to the point. Commander Ikari was not one to put things delicately, so, "In short, I had an affair with one of the scientists to further increase my control. Shinji, you have a sister." Shinji's only response was to widen his eyes. "You will be meeting her shortly on your trip with Captain Katsuragi next week to escort Evangelion Unit-02 and its pilot here to Tokyo-3. Her name is Sohryu Asuka Langley, the Second Child." Shinji only nodded dumbly, his mind in overdrive. "Dismissed." Dinner at the Katsuragi apartment that night was a quiet affair. As they ate, Misato kept a thoughtful look on Shinji the entire time. He never looked up from his food and did not say anything, which was not all that unusual for him, but something seemed different about his behaviour to Misato. 'And then there's that mysterious meeting with his father that Ritsu mentioned... I wonder what the Commander wanted with his son.' She decided to find out. "Hey, Shinji-kun?" she said. Shinji blinked and looked up slowly, as if waking from a dream. "Yes, Misato-san?" "Ritsu told me that your father wanted to see you today. What did you tralk about?" Shinji looked down. "He only told me something about my family that I didn't know before, that's all." He stood up. "I'm finished eating." He took his plate to the sink, and started out of the room. "I'm going to bed, Misato-san." Misato sat blinking, wondering even more about what secret Shinji might be hiding. Shinji lay awake in bed that night, looking up at the ceiling. 'I wonder what she's like... I hope we get along.' As she finally drifted off into slumber, he couldn't help but fear that she would be like his father... Authour's notes: Well, hello all!
