When I came to Israel, my accept was terrible. It's still very bad. People can tell right away that I came from America. However, I did have good English, and I made the most of it. I also had some protektzia, which certainly did not hurt.
Offered to help yeshiva them with the typing and translation.
Thank you letters for benefactors.
Especially good, because do it on my computer. Most of the letter was the same, and the computer could spin out a basic letter, and then I would personalize it.Later, had trouble with one of the other kids.
I helped with the typing and translating.
I never asked for pay.
True, they would occasionally give me a gift, - a bottle of schnapps or something, but it was only as a token.
When I requested, they had to let my kid in.
I was a big shot there.
I was king.
They made a big fuss about it.
We do their English typing and PR work for them. So I have proteksia, I guess.
Not that I was looking for it at the time.
I had just offered to help.
But it was certainly there when I needed it. So I play the protektzia game myself.
