Tips & Tricks
Bare root rose When you purchase a rose, look for a vase shape created by the canes(usually three or four canes are good) and for little horizontal growth. Once you have chosen your rose and are ready to plant, dig the hole at least twice as large as the container(or approximately 18-20 inches across and 24 inches deep if the rose is bare root).
Ivey's always adds pasturized cow manure to the potting soil when potting our roses; when being planted your roses would appreciate the same gesture from you! Water your roses regularly once they are in the garden and give them a place with plenty of air circulation.
After producing new shoots of about four inches, fertilize the roses with a granulated, time-release fertilizer such as PennGreen PennGreen Rose Food. Another key to keeping your roses looking their best is to spray for any problems before they are evident. We use Orthonex to prevent and combat insects and diseases. When spraying your prize possessions, please be sure to water them before spraying and be sure that the leaves are totally dry.
If you follow these guidelines and use your own experience and common sense, your roses will reward you will stunning shows of color year after year!
