Request from ARCH to Purchase Data
There was a discussion of the request from ARCH to a number of CICs to purchase data for the Vulnerable Persons Helpline. It was agreed that, no matter how "grumpy" we might feel, if a CIC sells information to anyone, it cannot refuse to sell to ARCH. A comment was made that it was ironic - and probably unfair - to lose our funding and then to see a similar amount going for the "Vulnerable Persons" initiative.
Some CICs have already sold or intend to sell either their directories or their database in electronic form. Others have not made a decision yet. ARCH is negotiating directly with Metro. Some CICs have the impression that, if the data is important to ARCH, then they seem to be motivated to reach a "deal". Unfortunately, although ARCH seems to be prepared to negotiate (at least with some CICs), it is not clear on what basis.
Rumour also has it that there may be some
negotiating going on for the Community Care Access Centres to use
the database being "developed" by ARCH.
Responsibility for the four ACICO Priorities
It was noted that if there are costs involved
in fulfilling any of the responsibilities people are taking on, those involved
must, prior to making any financial commitments, submit details
to David Caulfield (Treasurer) for approval. Depending on the amounts and
purpose of the expenditure, approval of the Board of Directors may be required.
Volunteers are asked to keep in mind the fragile financial state of the
Association when planning their activities.
Details of the voluntary committments made
by conference participants can be found by clicking here
. This is by no means a complete list. Other volunteers are needed
and welcome. Details on how to add your name to the volunteers list are

The following motion
was made
THANKS AND KUDOS . . . .
Special mention was made of the debt of gratitude owed to the Board members by the Association members. Particular thanks are due to Rosanna Thoms who has given heroically of her time and talents on the Board and in support of the Solicitor General activities.
The participants were also very grateful to Hazel Barton and David Caulfield for all of the work involved in putting together the conference. It was clear that without their initiative an dedication to the survival of the ACICO, the conference would not have happened.
The meeting
was adjourned at noon.
