Scouts Canada and Movimiento Scout del Uruguay form Twinning Project

How the Patrols Found Each Other:

More than 30,000 scouts from 135 countries met in a small valley park called Picarquin near Santiago, Chile December 27 - January 7, 1999. This event that occurs once every four years is the official World Scout Jamboree. The theme of the the jamboree is "Building Peace Together".
During the event, patrols (9 youth and 1 leader) were encouraged to form Twinning Patrols to do a joint project for the purpose of building friendships and learning about each other's culture, language and history. Additionally they were encouraged to design and conduct a project that would help to build further relations.
The patrols from Canada and Uruguay were camping next to each other at the Jamboree. These two patrols decided to conduct a local environmental project in April 1999.

Scouts Canada Patrol Twinning Project Plans:

A few kilometres west of London, Ontario, Canada at the Sharon Creek Conservation Area is a project for the development of a Tallgrass Prairie Habitat. Within this project will be shoreline restoration where trees will have to be planted. A deep ravine throught the property (8-10m) contains a variety of deciduous and coniferous trees, with open plain around.

Project Date: April 17-19, 1999

Local Project Co-ordinator: Dustin Lowthian
Scouter in Charge: Brian Wick

P.S. - Tallgrass Prairie communities once covered a significant part of southern Ontario's landscape. These endangered ecological communities now cover less than 3% of the original extent, in this region.

Movimiento Scout del Uruguay Twinning Project Plans:

We are searching for information about our traditional and native trees, and about what we have to do to be sure that the trees are going to grow in the appropriate way.
We're planning to plant them in a place called "Campo Escuela", this is a place from the Uruguayan Scout Movement that all the Scouts from our country use for going camping (for example). It's a very nice place that provides some big huts and a lot of trees.

Target Date: April 23, 1999

Our idea is to plant them in a place where everybody can see them and learn about those native trees.

Our group is formed by 8 scouts, each one has one important roll that contributes to the Twinning Project; for example, my responsibility is to show you our progress and our plans and communicate to my partners what your plans are too, another person has the responsibility of search for information about the trees and the way they have to be planted. Another important roll is comunications with the press.
We are going to send a letter to the press telling them about what we have planned, and to say that the Jamboree hasn't finished yet since it continues in our countries.
