FINNISH SCOUTS VISIT JAMBOREE:
Following 10 days canoeing in Quetico Provincial Park, (northern Ontario,) I volunteered some time at the 9th CJ (this was my third Canadian Jamboree.)
My
volunteer position was at Big Thunder Mountain just south-west of the city,
home of the Nortic Ski Championships in 1995. I pretty much spent the day
teaching the Scouts how to make bannock (bread on a stick,) foil dinners
on b-b-que and use of a dutch oven over a fire. This turned out to be very
hot work, but also very satisfying (lots to eat!)
On the opening day of the jamboree I had the pleasure to escort 7 Finnish Scouts (Suomalainen Partiolaiset) around the site at Boulevard Lake. In the picture are Mikko (left back), Kimmo (centre back), and Kirsty (on the right.) We tryed to meet with as many of the Canadian Scouts as possible since the Finns were only visiting for the one day.
