Sand Painting

From: Let's Be Indians By: Peggy Parish

CORNMEAL
SMALL BOWLS FOOS
COLORING OR POWDWERED TEMERA PAINT
PAPER OR CARDBOARD
GLUE
SPOON

1. Pour some cornmeal into several small bowls. Sprinkle a few drops of food coloring over the cornmeal -- using different colors for each dish -- and mash the mixtures with a spoon until all the meal is colored. Powered tempera paint will also color the cornmeal.

2. Draw a design on a piece of paper or cardboard.

3. Spread glue on the lines of the design, one line at a time. Sprinkle different colors of cornmeal mixture over the glue. Do not worry about getting off of the line. Only the mixture that falls on the glue will stick.

4. Let the glue dry. Gently shake off the loose cornmeal.
