The good effects of piracetme on a brain metabolism and the good neurovegetative properties were the reason to study the effects of the source on acute brain ischemia in 112 patients. We collected information of clinical picture, preliminary symptoms, risk factors, consciousness level and the outcome.112 patients were treated in our clinic the last five years with acute ischemic brain disease appeared the last 12-72 hours. Hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, coronary disease, biabetes, hyperlipidemia, high level of uric acid, smoking and obesity were the most often observed signs before the onset of an acute ischemic situation. Piracetam was given in loading dose of 12 gr. In slow IV onfusion (3gr q.i.d.) in 500ml D/W for 8-10 days. After that piracetame, was given per os 4,8 gr/24h. The patients had a follow up after the discharge in a specific Neurological center. A month after therapy 63% of the patients had improved general situation, neurological signs and consciousness level. 24% had little recover and 8% no ameliorate. Conclussivly, IV infusion of Piracetam in the patients of this study was successful on improving neurological signs, the consciousness level and the higher brain functions.
