will somebody alert perry a, hindi pumapasok and e-mail ko sa kanya, mura
siguro and bayad niya.

Butch,

The "Dutch" town is actually a Danish town called Solvang.
I'm here in New York City right now so I will try to hook up
with Raul. Did you know Divinagracia Montalban is right here
at the Julliard School of Music?

Regards,

Larry

EQ! Now the world knows where you're going. You can skip Solvang, it's a small American town pretending to be Dutch, façade architecture all around. But if you like Danish pastries and ice cream puede na rin. Meron din ceramics pero made in China.

Manny, hihintayin mo ba si EQ? So what's keeping you busy? Getting rid of the bug?

Cheers,
Jess

Dear Neph,

It seems that there is a change of plans.... EQ just told me that he
will be
staying with relatives in LA and not in the hotel in Marina del Rey.  He
doesn't know where they live, basta somewhere in LA.  FYI he has Nick's
cell
phone and should you need to call it is (415) 509-8892.

Guess what, he spent 4 hours trapped in 8 inches of snow today at
Yosemite.
He spun the car twice and one of those was toward a cliff.  You might
say he
is now closer to God than ever before.  Wait for the email on this trip,
should be better than his gall bladder.

Best of everything,

Butch

hello one and all,

i got plenty to tell and should get everyone bored and all. like, about
the
time when i couldn't put my dentures on that morning at yosemite. this
had
never happed to me before and so did driving down the yosemite
mountains on
what we were to learn later as eight inches of snow on a freaky spring
day.
tried calling butch to give me quick lessons on snow driving with out
chains; skidded twice -- once by the mountain side and a second time
almost
falling off a cliff; had to slogged thru knee-deep snow to look for
alternative lodging for my fam, getting very cold in a car running low
on
gas and heat, and finally got thru after seven hours zigzagging down at
5 -
10 miles per hour. and so on and so forth...

and what about the time when freddie, neph, bob t, butch and manny
reunioned
me at the cafeteria at pac bell. making me wear my one and only armani,
naka-tie pa, yun pala mag-bibill gates get-up lang pala sila, i.e.
loafers,
cotton pants, tieless shirt, and sports jacket, to listen and be pixed,
digital naman, with VP GMA -- may balak pa yatang ipasubo ako bagamat
retirable na. and so on and so forth...

and about the two golf games at pebble beach -- ray, reno eat your
hearts
out -- the first time at spanish bay, and the next day at spyglass.
will
e-mail you photos later. and two more rounds at hidden valley and
pelican
hill in l.a. and so on and so forth...

about how i called norma at oxnard and got to talk to cliff instead.
would
have wanted to be invited, after that three day trip down the pacific
coast
route via the big sur, solvang and santa barbara was so bitin. butch,
next
year can you plan out for holy at the main mission in santa barbara.
this
should do us all good. isama na natin si freddie, bob t, neph and ed s.
and
so on so forth...

and about me reunion with perry a. at venice beach with all the
characters,
sizes, manners of undress, dogs, goodies, baddies and what have you on
an
easter sunday. perry does some mean carpentry and you have to visit him
in
l.a. to kn ow what i speak of. and son and so forth...

finally a hello to edna s and bobby d. you're next in my iten.

reno, haven't heard from you. freddie arranging around of golf for us
--
you, me and good old jess on may 11. better get your ticket now, pack
your
salmons, and practice your swing some more.

freddie, are we set for may 12. heard so much about bob t's bbq. and we
can
have more krispy kremes.

ray, how's our tilapia business going. i have this friend of mine who's
interested in diving at palawan and other dive spots in the phil., not
for
tilapia though. he intends to join my cousins who are planning to
vacation
at amanpoulo in palawan in mid -june. can he go diving any where in
that
area? can you please appraise him. his name is stephen mccolgan and his
e-mail address is, [email protected].

'til i get hold of another machine, and so on and so forth...

eq  & jess:

kumusta na ang mga bakasyonista?  i hope this email reaches you on
time.  i "cc:"ed  the others whom i know you'll get in touch w/ while you
are in calif.  They can at least relay or forward this email to you
asap.  To you guys (in the "cc:"), thanks in advance.

While both of you are in ny, you and your families are invited to a
lunch
on a weekday, or either lunch or dinner on a weekend at our place in
new jersey (nj).  Don't you dare leave ny w/o this get-together
happening!  Pls get in touch w/ me as soon as you get this.  By the way, i work
evenings in manhattan on weekdays.

we are very close to manhattan, as you can see in the directions below.
We are even closer to Manhattan than any of  brooklyn, queens, and the
other boroughs of new york city.  I love ny!  I lived in elmhurst,
queens, for about 16 years kaya mas sanay ako sa nyc kaysa sa nj; b/c of
subways and buses, you don't need a car to be able to move around and go
places.  But elmhurst is farther from manhattan than where we are now.

We like it here.  We have a little of both worlds.  We work in
manhattan and we go home to nj w/c is very close.  and we still don't need a
car.

directions:

address:  312 midland court (in jacobs ferry), west new york, nj 07093

From manhattan:

A.  via Lincoln Tunnel:

1.  take the Lincoln Tunnel (on 42nd st. and 9th ave), exit at Hoboken,
bear left (on Willow Avenue)
2.  turn left on 2nd traffic light (19th St.) (landmarks:  Exxon gas
station, Dykes Lumber, Lincoln Harbor entrance)
3.  go straight towards Harbor Blvd (landmarks:  railroad crossing,
Sheraton Suites, port on hudson river)
4.  left on Harbor Blvd all the way to the end of the road (landmark:
on
the right -- the most beautiful and the widest view (day or night) of
the
Hudson River and nyc skyline (no kidding!).  take your time while
driving
and enjoy the view.
5.  right on Baldwin Avenue
6.  right on Ferry Blvd  (landmark:  marina on the right)
7.  straight to entrance to Port Imperial on ferry blvd (landmarks:
guardhouse, Arthur's Landing Restaurant, NY Waterway Ferry Station on
the right.  beware of street humps).
8.  continue all the way to the end of the road
9.   right on Port Imperial Blvd
10.  right on North Park Court, entrance to Jacobs Ferry/Bulls
Ferry/Landings Apts.
11.  left on Blvd at Port Imperial (not the same as Port Imperial Blvd)
12.  left on Midland Court all the way towards the end.
13.  park on driveway of #312.
*walk on sidewalk (w/ black grill fence; the highway to its left)
towards
the front of the house (landmark:  fire hydrant).  walk up the 4-step
white
stairs (perpendicular to sidewalk) on the right.  #312 is on the right.

B.  via Washington Bridge:

1.  exit to Fort Lee through Palisades Parkway, then River Road
2.  River Road is long.  the first half of it is winding.
3.  along the second half, you'll see on your left Yaohan (Japanese)
Supermarket
4.  then Pathmark/Barnes & Noble/MacDonalds, etc., shopping complex
5.  then Palisades Hospital.  after this is Jacobs Ferry/Bulls Ferry so
bear left and slow down
6.  turn left to entrance to Jacobs Ferry/Bulls Ferry
7.  go straight towards Blvd at Port Imperial
8.  right on Midland Court to the end of the street.  see 13 and (*)
above.

C.  via ferry (this is fun!):

1.  at any bus stop in either midtown manhattan (42nd St., 34th St.,
Broadway, Columbus Ave, etc.) or downtown (23rd St., World Trade
Center, Financial District, etc.), hail any New York Waterway Ferry (or
Whattaway!) shuttle bus.  it'll bring you (free) to the Hudson River port.
get one-way tickets to Port Imperial, Weehawken, NJ.
2.   ferry to Port Imperial takes only 10 mins. at Port Imperial, i
hope
there are Waterway Ferry (Whattaway) shuttle buses available (few only
during non-rush hours) that will bring you to Jacobs Ferry.  Otherwise,
call (at pay phone in the ferry station) for a cab (Metro taxi ph no.
is 869-0200).
3.  the distance to Jacobs Ferry is very short (5 mins.).  tell driver
you're going to jacobs ferry and give our address.
4.  see (*) above

B.  by bus:

1.  At NY City Port Authority (on 42nd St bet. 8th and 9th avenues) go
to
gate 200 for bus #158 to Edgewater/Fort Lee.  sit close to the driver
and
say that you're getting off at Jacobs Ferry.
2.  the entrance to Jacobs Ferry is on North Park Court opposite the
first
traffic light
3.  starting from Port Imperial, watch ou for the traffic light
4.  as soon as you see the traffic light from afar, press the "Request
for
Stop" button and remind driver that you're getting off at the entrance
of
Jacobs Ferry
3.  instead of walking towards the entrance, cross North Park Court.
walk forward (by half-block) on sidewalk (on its right is the blackgrill
fence).
4.  along the way, you'll see gates (black iron grill also; not obvious
from the road) w/ street names and nos. (e.g., Midland Court  312 -
350).
ours is the 3rd gate.
5.  see (*) above

C.  by private shuttle bus:

1.  at the parking lot on 42nd St. (opposite Port Authority) bet. 8th
and
9th Avenues, take shuttle bus (most are white; some are labeled
"Sphinx") going to Blvd. East.
2.  if poss., sit close to driver and say you're getting off at Galaxy.
3.  at Galaxy, walk down the stairs into the bldg.
4.   from the pharmacy and movie theatre area, take the second elevator
(at end of hall)
5.  get off on 8th floor (Galaxy garage) and walk towards the road car
entrance/exit (w/ guard)
6.  turn left (Ferry Road) and walk down towards the traffic light
(River
Road)
7.  when the light goes green, cross the River Road
8.  turn right.  see (*) above.

I hope you can squeeze this get-together in your scheds.  there's no
golf
course near us, but there's a driving range in Edgewater (5 mins. by
car), where Yaohan (japanese) supermarket, japanese restaurants and
stores (japs are concentrated in Fort Lee w/c is the next town, that's why),
shopping complex (bed, bath & beyond, TJ max, staples), restaurants,
etc., are located.

we can also have a picnic by the promenade (walking distance -- about
half a block) along the hudson river w/ a close and beautiful view of
manhattan.  it's an excellent site for picture-taking.

re:  suggestions on where/what to see in new york (per eq), here's a
list:
Midtown manhattan:  SoHo galleries (a must-see), museum of modern art,
central park w/ a beautiful zoo.  i  heard maganda din daw ang
guggenheim museum; broadway plays (lion king, beauty and the beast, cabaret,
our sinatra, etc.)

Uptown:  american museum of natural history (I've seen this so many
times, hindi pa rin ako nagsasawa), metropolitan museum of art (ito rin)

Downtown:  chinatown, greenwich village (vanguard, the blue note, etc.,
for jazz)

Bronx Zoo (this is incredible! unless you've seen the San Diego zoo

I assume that before you consider any of these suggestions while you're
in ny, you'll set aside one afternoon or evening for our get-together,
right?  I was kinda hesitant in adding more to the list above, baka
kasi
mapurnada ang invite ko sa inyo.

I'll trace myrna lopez and her family to join us.  I understand she
lives in nj.  Does anyone of you know her tel. No. and/or address?

I don't mind how many of you will come (sanay ako, i had catering as
sideline when we were in elmhurst, queens), just give me enough notice
at least before or at end of apr.

I'm looking forward to our get-together.  i need to end this email now.
Ngawit na ako nang kaka-type (kahit 2 daliri lang).

Happy whatever,

susan

p.s.:  eq ulit:  re:  where else to go after ny and before going back
to l.a.?
new orleans!  esp. if you like jazz.

hello again one and all,

it appears my first e-mail hasn't found it's way to your machines. but i
have just been partying with bobby d and edna s here in san diego. we had a
ball, in fact i had two meatballs with my sbarro spagheti, at  plaza bonita.
had to leave the place by  piyem or we would have been swept out.

edna and family are definitely a go for the december reunion. ray, if your
on line, they're asking about accommodes, preferably a condo in makati. can
you check around for any such and e-mail everybody back they may just be
interested. toss in , too, info from bobby r of asiana and anybody connected
with any airlines for any special fare or any possible upgrade. as soon as i
get back i'll try to raise some connections but if any of you can access
some quick info, this may help some of our stateside friends make a quick
decide. edna has taken it upon herself connect with norma s, inday and noli,
perpie b to ensure their presence in december. it would help to get her
quick in fo pronto. edna s is a rarin to show our fiftyish classmates her
vavaboom figure, esp. the ladies.

bobby d should get a hold of ernie e, even if he has to travel to dallas.
ernie e by the way has gotten some fan following among the readers of boo's
column. bobby intends to get back there for his daughter's wedding in
october. watch out for this guy. he now proudly admits he's the most senior
among us because from what he has seen in manny and me he kinda feels he
could be the youngest looking among all of us. and of course naman he
doesn't forget that he beat out jerry b, ex-presidential spokesman and
future president, to the presidency of the prep student council. and he has
many more stories to tell, including about his mom in law. boy, do i love
this guy bobby. he even almost hug  me at the mall, 'cept that some other
guys were giving him the look.

let me send this now, baka mabura pa ako. i'll get back to the abouts on
butch, freddie, neph, bob t, manny and perry next sign in.

       EQ

hi mani,

how was it possible that i missed eq???

did he ever get a copy of my emails re:  eq & jess coming to ny?
and if he did and didn't bother at least to call, @#$%^&*+!!!!! (unless he
is innocent).

naguguluhan ako sa emails niya.  wasn't he supposed to be in calif. for the
get-together w/ fred, butch, etc., on may 10?  or was it in his sched.
after ny?  i had no idea he would be here before may 10.  ang akala ko
after may 10 pa.  or did i miss some of those emails like i had for the
past weeks?  (thanks mani for forwarding to me those emails whenever you
catch them w/o my email address included.  i know it's hard to keep track
and make sure everyone is included in the train).  i would surely be more
in the dark w/o your thoughtfulness.

also, i wonder why all of sudden eq stopped getting in touch w/ the group
(you, butch, etc., wonder where he is now).

we're also in the dark on eq's wherabouts.
jess, especially.

as for his not calling-- eq has this habit of
calling for the numbers of other classmates.
it's a habit cause he keeps mentioning the
same names everytime he calls.
i'm sure he must have lost our numbers again.

Subject: eq's here

waiting for butch's call.

The get together?  Well it was good, but tiring for me.  I guess that is
because I have a van.  I prepared about 20 lbs. of ratatouille (AKA
French
Pinakbet using eggplant, zucchini, peppers, tomatoes etc.) and my wife
was
kind enough to cook another 20 lbs of Pollo al ajillo (or Spanish
adobo...haha, but my recipe) Bob Tor babequed two whole pork chop loins
still on the spine, and then sliced it and served it with sauce au jus.
Fred's wife Syvel cooked a lovely Paella, and then Fred bought lumpia
shanghai (tons of it) for appetizers, and then my favorite... TURRON
(Saging) ...shades of UP Diliman.. for desert.  Not to forget, Neph
brought
the refreshments.

I had hoped that everyone's family would be there, and almost... the
guest
list was:

Fred, his wife Syvel, his daughter and son.
Bob Torres and his wife, Eva.
Manny Cannilas
Neph Medina and his wife April,
Nellie Javier (Flores?) alone
EQ Pablo... alone
My bother, Johnny, his wife Mong, and two kids,
Me, my wife Geling, and daughter, Frankie.

All I know is that I went with Fred to get the Lumpia, Turron and then
to
Fred's home then to the BART station to pick up Nellie, and then making
a u
turn later as EQ also took the BARTand arrived....  At least, I didn't
have
to make another trip.

Got to Fred's house, and found out that the women that were left behind
were
already comparing notes of their Prepian hubbies.  Have no idea what
they
said, but they were laughing a lot.  So hopefully all is not that bad.

Dinner was good, the pork and paella specially scrumptious.  And as I
said
the Turron was heavenly.  The boys with Nellie (i.e. Prepians) together
with
EQ sat at the dinner table and discussed everything under the sun with
EQ as
usual taking the lead.  The wives however stayed by the breakfast nook
and
were laughing and hollering.  I again still don't have the faintest clue
as
to what or who they were laughing at.  I only hope they were not
comparing
the Casanova styles or anatomies of UP Prepians.

Anyhow, at 11:30 the party broke up, and EQ stayed behind to be brought
home
by Fred and Manny.  While I brought Nellie home.  The only difficulty?
Nellie did not know exactly where she lived... and her cousin(?) didn't
want
to answer the phone that late to give us directions.  Anyhow, we were by
the
Krispy Kreme Doughnut place, so I got two dozen for my breakfast.  So
the
time was not wasted.  Anyway we finally got through to Nellie's cousin,
brought her safely home and got home at 2:00 am.  (By the way without
Traffic, Fred's place is anywhere from 1 to 1-1/2 hr. from my place.

Tired but rewarding.  Nice to know that my friends have become my wife's
friends, and it seems to have been ditto with the other ladies too.  One
of
life's pleasures no?

Want pictures?  Nag EQ and of course the email manager... Manny C.

All the best, Susan,

Butch

hello manny and all,

i'm back, too. since a week ago today. but you know how it is with this
golden boy,  after saturday night fevering, jekkling and hyding, and
phantoming the opera at nyc; ripping grass at tiger's playgrounds at
pebble
beach, torrey pines, lake manassas, atbp.; clicking photos  with gma,
lining
up for krispy kreme and bbqing with the bay area boys ; radyo
patrolling the
l.a. beaches with perry; malling with bobby d and edna s in san diego;
getting monitored by butch all over the states. you think the jet lag's
a
joke. the first five days back, i'd wake at  one a.m. on the dot. this
golden body's finding it more difficult to make adjustments. anyway.

thanks a lot butch for backing me almost all the way. doing all that
travelling with the fam, it was reassuring having someone i knew i
could
call anytime of the day and the night even if i did not really get  the
hang
of your long numbered cell and public phones. clem particularly
appreciates
your family touch -- picking us up at sfo with TR, showing us your palo
alto
digs, dining with our rels at el burro, making freddie's bbq a family
affair, and talking, talking and just keepin on talking. geling, take
very
good care of my sfo nanny!!!

thanks a lot freddie, bob tor, and neph for lunch at the world's largest
cafeteria. motoring an hour to union city for a taste of krispy kreme
donuts -- melts in your mouth -- was really some treat. no wonder
manny, in
his brief sojourn with you, has regained his poundage. and  i did not
realize, until i opened my e-mail, how much planning, coordination,
communication, innovation and inspiration were put into that special
dinner
we had at freddie's place. it was made more special by the surprise
presence
of nellie j and, of course, the wifeys, and the phone patches to ray in
manila and norma at oxnard. it could have been more special if only
jess
knew how to use the hotel phone at the crowne plaza, if ed s did not
have to
attend to a 'crisis' in europe, if reno was not in too much awe of my
allege
golf prowess, and if edna s, bobby d and perry... aw, let's just do it
again.

thanks a lot perry for the easter sunday tour at venice beach and for
the
special something you made for me which i cannot speak of because all
our
classmates may just start to visit you in l.a. oh, come on perry. why
can't
i tell them about the pen set you personally carpentered for me. it's
not so
bad if our preppies go there to visit you to get their personal pen
sets. i
would have wanted to visit santa monica and the j. paul getty muse, but
let's do that for next. enough weirdos for this year.

thanks a lot edna s and bobby d for malling with me at the plaza
bonita.
watch out, everyone, for these two. they're rarin' to show their wares
in
our december reunion. bobby d does not now balk at giving his age and
even
confesses to be the most golden among all of us. but this is because he
looks the youngest with his baby face. and i've told you earlier about
how
vavaboom edna s has become, no longer is she our bloody mary.
edna is ready and she should raise perpie b. and bobby, don't forget
ernie.

mea culpa, toots de j. we had to do quicktime in new york. up at seven
a.m.,
in bed at 3 piyem. one day downtown, next day midtown, last day uptown.
elevator to the top of the world, walk the avenues, down coffee at the
espn
zone, wwf hq, virgin and all star cafes, line up at times square, sleep
thru
broadway shows, party with jack wagner and colleen sexton at the
firebird in
46th, lunch at the UN c/o congen linglingay, savor moma in half a
morning.
there was not just enough time. can there ever be in nyc? but we could
have
done more with you... and larry, too. and what about with divina... and
myrna.... wow!!!

but we'll do more and a lot, lot more when we party here in december,
liz
and ray promise you that. so why not all you guys and dolls make your
ticket
reserves now, patch up with ray or liz for your booking at the subic
yacht
club. until then this is your golden boy signing out -- gotta sleep
thru one
a.m.

dear butch,

never mind if you don't have the faintest idea as to who or what them wives
were laughing at, for as long as we make them happy, di ba freddie, neph,
and bob tor.

and if nellie's 'only difficulty' that night was to remember the directions
to her cousin's home, can't imagine how she took the BART to richmond. dya
know if she ever found her way back home to the philippines?

and all jess had to do was to dial the frisco numbers.

it was nice being friends with geling, syvel, april, and eva in sanfo, and
glory in l.a., and to talk to cliff while he was doing some work in the
garage at oxnard. everybody else will want to be friends with them and many
more of you prepian lovers when we reunion here in december.

toots keep on earning!!!
