DESCRIPTION

Air Canada was an early operator for the Lockheed TriStar, Its 10 series one aircraft were ordered back in December 1968.

As part of is 10-year fleet renewal programme, Air Canada ordered six TriStar 500s in April 1979, with options on a further nine aircraft. The initial order was worth about 125 million, and were the definitive -500 with active controls and RB211-524B4 engines, which had the same thrust as -524Bs` , but a 4.5% improvement in cruise specific fuel consumption. The 246 seat Air Canada TriStar 500s were planned for the long transatlantic routes.
The first aircraft (C-GAGF) was rolled out at the end of 1980 for delivery in February 1981.
Eventually, only the six on firm order were taken up, the other nine options were cancelled.
All the Air Canada TriStar 500s were sold to Delta Airlines in 1991 / 1992.

C-GAGF C/N 1202 first flew on the 28th of January 1981 and was delivered to Air Canada on the 26th of February 1981. It served until the 15th of August 1991 when it was sold to Delta as N764DA.
The aircraft is still current with Delta in its 17 strong TriStar 500 fleet.

The visual model is based on photos taken at LHR during 1983.

The TriStar 500 is in the select group of aircraft that has never had a crash or fatal accident.
Only 50 were built, but all 50 are still in use.
