                De Havilland Canada DHC-3 Otter
*****************************************************************

This airplane requires BAO's Flight Shop and Microsoft Flight
Simulator 5.0a or 5.1.

    Engines: 1 X 600 hp. P&W R-1340 9-cyl. radial
    Max T/O Wieght: 8,000 lb
    Length: 41 ft 10 in
Wing span: 58 ft 0 in
    Cruise Speed: 120 knots
    Range: 775 nm

With the success of the DHC-2 Beaver, De Havilland Canada relized
that there was a need for a larger and more powerful version of this
plane with the ability to haul up to 14 passengers. The DHC-3 (then
known as the King Beaver) first flew in December of 1951 and a total
of 460 of these rugged STOL transports were constructed between 1952
and 1968. Of this total, 293 went into the U.S. and Canadian military
and the remainder going to civil operators. Many of these planes are
still in service with bush pilots in Canada, Alaska, Central America,
South America and the Caribbean.

This model is an almost complete rework of John Kelley's original
FS4 model. John's original model was mostly accurate on the size and
placement of all major components, but the model lacked detail and
subtlety of shape. (This I must attribute to the limitations of FS4
because John's FS5 models are generally quite good.) About the only
thing left untouched from John's original is the engine cowling and
the prop.

The file dhc3ottr.gif is a before and after picture of the plane.

  Many Thank's to:

...John Kelley - For making his FS4 .afx file available to the
                         flight-sim community.

...Mike Vidal - For educating me on the in's and out's of the FDE.

  Other aircraft I've done:

All of these planes include the source .afx and .pcx files and
are available at ftp.iup.edu. Many of them are also available at

  Installation:

copy dhc3ottr.af0-5 to your /textures directory
copy dhc3ottr.air to your /pilots directory

dhc3ottr.afx is included if you want to modify the plane yourself
dhc3pcx.zip contains the .PCX files for the textures.

This is FREEWARE. So don't make any money with this. All I ask
is that this archive is kept intact when uploading to other services.

All data and measurements are from the Encyclopedia of the World's
Commercial and Private Aircraft and various Janes books.

If you download this plane and like it, E-Mail me and let
me know. Encouragement will make me do more!
