ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN TECHNICAL SERVICE

Hired by Foster Wheeler Corp. to troubleshoot problems at the FW Weirton Steel Steam Plant, where treatment and operating schemes were developed which enabled operation of pretreatment equipment. Unusual raw water and equipment misoperation had caused repeated plant failures. Trained operators and supervised a team of engineers during a test period of plant operation.
Supervised construction and start-up of large makeup water treatment system at Baoshan Electric Utility Plant near Shanghai, China for Sargent and Lundy Engineers.
Participated in team effort with start-up and troubleshooting of make-up water treatment system at Shahryar Electric Utility Plant near Tehran, Iran for General Electric Corp.
Troubleshooted process, equipment, and control problems of PLC controlled make-up and cooling tower blowdown water treatment systems (clarifier and LaMella Separator) for Ogden Martin operated resource recovery plant, Marietta, PA.
Performed over fifty inspections of feedwater deaerating heaters, utility tray and scrubber type. Inspections were necessitated by internal damage caused by operating problems, and made recommendations for repair.
Performed construction, start-up, and/or process troubleshooting on over twenty-five clarifiers and LaMella separators. Unit size varied from 100 ft. diameter to 10 ft. pilot unit.
Have written and / or edited over one hundred water treatment system O&M manuals, and have trained novice engineers and plant operators in the classroom and field.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN PROJECT / DESIGN ENGINEERING

Specified demineralizer components in bill of material; tanks, pumps, valves, piping and negotiated vendor bids. Supervised draftsmen in preparation of P&I diagrams, plot plans, layouts and fabrication drawings.
Designed complex demineralizer/condensate polishing systems for electric utility plants, Georgia Power Bowen Plant and Niagara Mohawk Nine Mile Island, in accordance with ASME and ANSI.
Designed a twenty-one vessel sugar demineralizer/decolorizer system, sugar beet processing plant, in accordance with ASME and food grade standards.
Full responsibility for $600,000 municipal water treatment plant upgrade project including process and equipment design, specification, permitting, vendor client contact, and start-up.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN SALES/APPLICATION ENGINEERING

As Aftermarket Sales Manager with Belco was responsible for a sales organization which generated annual sales of $1.2 million. Successfully marketed spare parts, water treatment chemicals, package equipment, and retrofit projects.
Sold $130,000 plant retrofit to Miller Brewing Co., Fulton, NY. Brewery water purification system AC Purifier Vessels were upgraded with new internals.
Surveyed operating problems of a very large demineralizer system at Tennessee Eastman, Kingport, TN. Proposed solution saved equipment downtime, and initiated a $24,000 sale and additional sales over an extended period.
While at Belco I discovered a long standing problem with boiler cycle deaerating heater equipment dating to 1968. Interpretation and solution of this corrosion problem improved the product and created many retrofit sales opportunities.
