This first visit occured in January 1987 timeframe. Upon introducing
myself to the old farmer living there, and once he saw I wasn't selling anything,
he was extremely friendly. The kind to invite you to stay for dinner.
I regret that I do not have the name of the farmer at this time, however,
over the years he may no longer be alive. We talked a long time about
things in general but primarly about the cemetery. He told me that
he lived on that farm for thirty years and that I was only the second person
to every see the cemetery. The cemetery itself was in bad shape as
most of these old cemeteries are. It was grown up with weeds, trees
and other stuff after years of sitting in the woods. If it had not
been for winter, I would have had trouble getting through the brush, however
it is visible from a little dirt road. Quite a few of the stones are
missing and some are buried under the dirt and leaves. There seemed
to be three long rolls of graves as indicated by the depressions in the ground.
Only the first half of these rows had any stones at all. I did
managed to located two stones that had fallen under leaves and dirt. I
believe that more stones still lay there.
CEMETERY LOCATION
This cemetery is location on a private farm, approximately 3 miles southeast of downtown Elizabethtown, Kentucky off Gaither Station Road. Take Hwy 62 out of town and turn off onto Gaither Station Road. Go down this road, It will be either the first or second road off to the left. you must go over a nice little rise in the ground where the railroad tracks are. You should see a small house straight down the dirt road. The dirt road continues on pass the house to the left where it leads to another house or trailer home. I believe it was his son's house. Once up on the hill side of this road, on the left you will pass a large clump of trees, the beginning of the woods. There is where you will find this cemetery.
