12/14/97 Here's a neat poem I found on the newsgroup Rec.Toys.Cars . The object was to start it off, then have other people add to it as they found it! It is cool and getting long. Frostdude

Redline oh Redline. Your innocense lost
Now that you sell for three hundred times cost
Your colors so simple, all shiny and bright>>
To behold your beauty brings so much delight
For now we are overwhelmed with tampos so crude
As those of Mod Bod, Spy Print, and Fast Food.
Oh, when will the designers at Mattel ever learn...>>
That spoilers, stripes are for what we yearn.
Those spectraflame colors brilliant in hue
Buried in the sandbox, it makes me so blue
I see them in my sleep, aqua, pink and magenta
Where is my Volkswagon, the one that I lent ya!
You didn't return it, your not that nice
Its out in the garage, crushed in the vice!
I felt a shudder as a wheel hit the floor>>>
Now you owe me your gold What-4!
Or perhaps that nice, mint purple Vicky>>>>>
Even a rear loading Beach Bomb, I'm really not picky.
I sit and reflect, it seems such a pity
That they no longer make a Nitty Gritty Kitty
Oh to find that perfect Olds 442
Or a Superfine Turbine in a nice shade of blue.
And who doesn't want a pink Classic Cord?>>>
I swear if I had two , I wouldn't hoard
I like the vehicles made by AMC
Packin Pacer, Greased Gremlin are the Hot Wheels for me
Open Fire, Redliner, Gremlin Grinder, Warpath
at prices outragous, you do the math!
For Chrismas I'd like one purple custom AMX
Condition 9 with redlines would be better than sex
At flea markets, the scalpers I do disdain
hoarding the new ones, and leaving us to complain>>>>>
Collecting these beauties can be very tricky,
what with scalpers and scum and folks kind of yicky.
what makes them so nice,
and it�s sure not the price
is the fact that they don�t make �em anymore
like the new ones that they make by the score.
with 48 new FE's: Mattel's gone insane....
Looks like the quality has gone down the drain
So I no longer make the search
content to hunt redlines from my secret perch
imagine if the new ones could look,
like the redlines in Strauss's book
How I long for the days...>>>
when I began collecting; at first just a phase.
Back then the cars were the farthest� from plain>>>
with all the new ones, I think I'll abstain.
Plastic and glitter - is not all gold,
give me the HWs that are red-line and old.
Oh Mattel, Mattell, its not about money,
its about memories and fun, don't you see.
Keep flooding the market with more and more,
it's quite obvious you don't know the score.
Give us quality and respect as collectors we are......>>>
I buy so many that it fills up my car
I spend all my lunch breaks, my money and time
scrounging my quarters, pennies and dimes.
I head to Hill's and TRU.
Then onward to Walmart and K-mart too.
I've friends and parents; even my wife look for me,
but rarely a new model on the pegs do we see.
An FE or a TH; hey! A Scooter'd be nice,
But if you want 'em, you'll pay an exhorbitant price.
I'm tired of the toy aisles! This I confess.
Some folks are slobs and leave them a mess.
There's dolls with the cars� and Tickle Me Elmos.
I'd never buy one... why do they sell those?
Instead all my money goes t'wards my hobby>>>
