 Text from Wednesday, October 16, 1991 AdPinPoint Music Celebrates Five Years of TradingIn 1985, Steve Gibbs "had a dream." He had always been interested in, and lucky enough to work in music retailing. He went along to a press launch in London, and heard the quality of reproduction from the then relatively new sound carrier, the compact disc.�����Immensely impressed by this new technology he then seriously considered the idea of opening his very own CD-Only store. Friends, colleagues and banks mocked his idea saying he would never make it pay, the market was too new, and they generally tried to put him off such a crazy notion. He persisted however, and finding a friendly financial source began to put his dream into reality. �����PinPoint Music, the area's only One-Stop CD Shop first opened its doors to the public at 1e, Leigh Road, Eastleigh on Saturday 11 October 1986. Since that date, thousands of customers have come away satisfied. �����PinPoint's Chairman and Managing Director, Steve's original business philosophy still rings true today. "I wanted and still want to give the public the best and biggest possible choice of compact discs and to mix that with a friendly informative service that they are hard pushed to find from the larger less personal high street music stores... I never take the public for granted and always realize they have a choice ... I simply want to make PinPoint the first choice every time they decide to buy a CD!" �����It would appear that this attitude of 'giving the public what they want' is the one which has paid him dividends. "I owe my success to the public... without them who knows what I'd be doing !" �����His idea of a free PinPoint Discount Card. giving regular customers savings on almost all the discs they buy, first saw the light of day in 1987. Since then, almost 2,000 people have 'joined up' for one, all enjoying its simple benefits. " Great choice, great service and a price that's right... what else can the public want from a CD retailer?" says Steve. �����"We've never sat on our laurels... we're always looking for new acts and artists for people to buy, the things they never get the chance to hear on the radio... that's what makes us different from the rest... we're really passionate about music... we're always trying to match regular customers to some of the more obscure releases.. sometimes we hit home and sometimes we don't... we never pressurise anyone... music listening is a very personal thing after all... but we sincerely hope that all our efforts make all our customers lives a bit happier." Steve always has a lot to say, and he and his colleague, Drew Hobbs, are constantly behind the counter to otter assistance. "I find it quite amazing that we're five years old... the five years have not been without their drama, and I have to say that the last ten months or so have been particularly difficult what with the recession and everything... but I'm proud to have survived this long and hope that Drew and myself can go on selling music for quite a few more years yet !
