Ball
I had a girl of wealth and glory
Power speaks in resonance
A child's dreams of grandiose ambitions
foolish love of clouded visions
She sent me flowers of golden pollen
residue from wealth's embrace
A silver whistle calling louder
echoes from a mortal grace
A tempest horn, calling louder
Let the ball begin at once
A plump and pleasing all night bash
Drown my dreams in bags of cash
Love, not status played the role
Mesmerized I was of her
and her of me, all I wanted
But what she wanted she did not know
A pomp and flur, a mighty furry
Raucous of Olympian type
Drowning louder, ceasing never
Never came and past and gone
Still the festives, ever louder
played a greater role in time
and distance grew, and fog dispersed
to show the truth, reveal the worst
I knew not once, I knew not time
A nuance then of broken dreams
I knew not sun, I knew not life
The life of which I was to be
A letter of a secret
Kept in the ashes till floating noon
A blossom's berries of unknown sweetness
Upon a tree that never bloomed
till now...
