Since it's inception in March 1993, Three D Radio's, "The Esoteric Circle" has been presented by Matt Krieg, bringing a bounty of contemporary jazz sounds to the adventurous listener.

"The Esoteric Circle" fills the gap left by other jazz radio programming by casting a wide net over a diverse range of music and musicians, many of whom receive little or no airplay elsewhere in Australia.

A main point of focus is to draw attention to the small independent labels from around the globe - music that usually stretches prevailing ideas about what jazz is and isn't. Styles covered include mainstream, post-bop, free jazz, fusion, improv, avant-garde and all the stuff between (and outside) the genres. If you want to give your jazz listening a "good shot in the arm", then tune in.

For some idea of the artists and CD titles that have appeared on the show over the years look at the play list examples.

The Future of the Esoteric Circle

On September 6th, 1999 Matt Krieg officially announced his decision to withdraw from the program after more than 6 years of single-handedly preparing and presenting the program. In March 1999 Greg Fisher began assisting Matt on a rotation basis to keep the program on the air.

Following Matt's departure it was necessary to locate another suitably skilled person to assist in presenting the "Esoteric Circle" and he has been found. On October 11th 1999 Geoff Kerruish, a former 5UV presenter, presented his first show and has continued with the program on a rotational basis.

I trust that you have welcomed Geoff to the "Esoteric Circle" and that you have continued to listen to and support the program in its new era. Assuring you of our continued commitment to the aims and aspirations of the program to present the best in contemporary jazz and new music,

Greg Fisher
