Lethal Weapons

Cable and Wolverine. Two mutants born with an altered genetic structure that gave them more than human powers. Wolverine's gifts are animal-sharp senses and reactions, plus a healing factor that makes him well nigh indestructible and which has enabled his body to accept implants of adamantium steel that lace his bones and lethal claws that pop at a thought from housings in his wrists.
Cable's gifts are no less impressive. Telepathy and telekinesis, and though he will not use either in this battle, his cunning and bravery are as prodigious as his speed, endurance and strength. Cable is among the Best at Everything he does, and in his short time as leader of The New Mutants, he's convinced his charges that he does Everything Well.
The Mexican born Rictor, whose seismic power can lever cities; Rahne Sinclaire, the Scots Lycanthrope Wolfsbane; and Roberto Da Costa, the super-strong Sunspot, await the outcome of this fight with horror.
For this is a clash of Titans. The battle The New Mutants would have given their eyeteeth to witness. If only it wasn't happening here and now, in the warehouse district of the tiny island nation of Madripoor. At a time when the world is in desperate need of all their strength and cooperation. If only both men were not their friends.
Wolverine leaped towards Cable, claws extended, ready to rip him apart. Cable was quicker. Ducking below the swipe of Logan's claws, Nathan took hold of him and fell back to the ground, flipping Logan into a pile of crates, with enough force to break every bone in a normal man's body. Logan merely pushed off the debris and wiped the blood from his lip and dealt Cable a round-house left-hook to his jaw. Cable immediately responded with his own left-hook which re-bloodied Logans lips and nose. Again Wolverine rolled with the blow and came up ready for more.

Meanwhile, Sam was putting some of Cable's lessons on Down & Dirty Strategy to good use. Tempting Dragoness close enough to lift the key to their shackles from her without her knowledge so that they could escape and put a stop to Stryfe's plan to poison the water supplies of many major cities around the world.

Outside, the fight, which has lasted mere minutes, seems, to The New Mutants, to have gone on for hours. So far, they have not entered the fray, for fear of alerting Stryfe's guards to their presence. Yet The New Mutants know that they must act quickly, before one of the combatants is dead.
Wolverine again leaped at Cable, who this time stood his ground and caught Logan, at the apex of his leap, with another round-house left, smashing him back fifteen feet, blood gushing from wounds that had already begun to heal. Cable moved in and grabbed Logan with his left hand and lifted him straight up as he drew back his right hand to deliver yet another blow.
It was not to be, however, for it was at this moment that Rictor decided to end this battle. He used his power to weaken the supports for a water tower which caused it to fall towards the two combatants, who where soon lost underneath a deluge of tons of water.
As the water cleared away, The New Mutants saw Cable and Wolverine had been deposited at opposite sides of the alley. They rushed to get inbetween the two to prevent more fighting. Cable informed them that such extreme measures weren't necessary.
This shocked them speechless, until Rahne finally spoke up,
"I understand now. That fight wasn't real! You were just having a bit of fun, while we were so worried about you both!"
"Half right anyway, Pumpkin." Wolverine told her, "Fight goes way back an' it's real enough. We been tryin' to come to a reckoning off an' on fer years. Every time we get close, somethin' like that deluge you cooked up intervenes. Ruined a perfectly good cigar, too! What are you doing in this neck of the woods, Cable?"
"Same as you...probably. The Mutant Liberation Front plans to poison a lot of people, and we plan to stop them."

Cable and Wolverine formed a plan of attack, and made their way to the roof of Stryfe's warehouse, and as they were looking in through the sky light, the mini-cerebro unit began to beep repeatedly.
"The cerebro units registerin' mutants below..." Logan noted.
"Ours?" Cable asked.
"Wont know till we look!" Wolverine said as he jumped down, crashing through the sky light.
"Are you insane?" Cable yelled at Logan, even as he himself jumped down after him. "What happened to stealth?"
"You wanted in, Bub. You're in!"
They hit the floor ready for battle, only to discover that the battle had apparently already been won by the others. Cannonball, Boom-Boom, Warlock and Sunfire stood over a defeated squad of Stryfe's guards.
"So, you beat us here!" Wolverine said.
"Of course," Sunfire answered, "We induced this servant of the terrorist Stryfe to lead us here, where Stryfe stores the drug which he will use to contaminate the water supplies of the major capitals of the world."
"Many of these crates hold explosives." Cable observed, "This warehouse is a cache of weapons. But other crates are unmarked. Thousands of them...and we have no way of knowing which ones hold the sleet"
Then, through an open doorway, Stryfe enters with his assassins Kamikaze, Sumo and Dragoness.
Cable's blood boiled as he again laid eyes on the man he hated more than any other,
Stryfe, The Chaos Bringer

"You've ruined enough innocent lives, Mister. I'll Die before I let you slaughter more!" Cable yelled as he drew his gun and fired all in one smooth motion.
"Bullets won't stop me, Cable. Nothing will stop me!" Stryfe said as the bullets bounced off his armor.
The New Mutants and Sunfire joined in battle with Stryfe's assassins, as Wolfsbane sniffed out the crates with the sleet in them and Wolverine destroyed them.
"Go ahead, Logan. Destroy that garbage. I'll take care of Stryfe" Cable yelled as he moved in to attack Stryfe. "You're nothing but a terrorist, a murderer of women and children..."
"And what do I care for human women and children?" Stryfe replied, "Don't you know, Cable? You, who are so proud of your intellectual superiority? What the humans are doing in places like Genosha, they will do to all of us in time. Unless we stop them! They will never give us what we want, unless we force their hands!"
Cable interrupted Stryfe's tirade with a solid left upper-cut to the jaw, which knocked him a full fifteen feet back.
"Save the speeches for the fools who follow you. You hide a lust for power behind fine sounding phrases...and humans aren't you only victims!"
Stryfe said, as he was getting up from where Cable had decked him. "My victims are all who oppose me!"
Stryfe had no more than gotten this out when Cable was upon him once more. He delivered a round house blow that he thought must surely have broken Stryfe's neck, if not for that thrice-cursed armor he wore. Still, there he lay, unconscious, at his mercy, the man who had taken so much from him. It would finally be over. Cable moved in to finish it once and for all.
Rictor had made a tactical error and had downed Dragoness, while she was still projecting her intense heat, into some of the crates of explosives. These ignited and threatened to blow the whole warehouse off the map. Sam saw this and told all the others to get out, while he flew down and scooped up Cable before he could finish off Stryfe, and also grabbed Wolverine on his way out.
"Sorry ta interrupt, Sir...and you too, Wolverine..." Sam said as he flew them out through the sky light they had entered through only moments before. "...But that whole place is fixin' ta blow sky high!"
Sam had no sooner said these words when, with a sound like thunder, the structure exploded in a blaze so horrorific, that no one inside could possibly survive. Roberto remarked that Stryfe must be dead, to which Cable replied,
"If Stryfe is really fallen. I find it hard to believe his finish was accomplished so easily!" Cable knew well of Zero's teleportation abilities. He was fairly sure that the android had saved not only Stryfe but his newest recruits as well.
"But, Stryfe captured Rusty and Skids, if he's gone, how will we ever find them?" Boom-Boom asked.
"Once the head is gone, the organization...the body...tends to crumble. Don't worry Boom-Boom, finding your friends will be next on our agenda!" Cable told her.

A heartfelt promise, but one doomed to be broken. For even now, The New Mutants are next on someone else's agenda!
Who is this terror that stalks them from Genosha?
