What Was...What Is...

Ebonshire Forest, some two thousand years from yesterday. Same as it ever was. The seasoned warrior named Cable rushes headlong into jeopardy at the side of the only woman he ever truly loved, Aliya, who took the battle name Jenskot after the legendary 'First Ones' Jean Grey and Scott Summers.
"I'm not sure where we are." Aliya, tells him, as they trek through the forest. "The temporal journey is not easy to predict, so we're going to have to find a reference point. Does any of this look familiar to you, Cable?"
"Actually...no." Nathan replies, thinking, "Look at her. So full of confidence and grace. It's almost as if it never happened. As if she never..."
Same as it ever was? Not quite. Eleven minutes ago. Eleven minutes ago, and what feels like a lifetime, Cable stood on the bow of a ship run by the enigmatic being known as Blaquesmith. It was present day, late twentieth century Baltimore, Maryland. Now, somewhere in the far-flung future, some two-thousand years hence, he must save Jenskot's love and leader of the Clan Chosen, Nathan Dayspring. The Askani'Son. The boy Cable once was. His younger self. Sometime, years from now, Aliya will become his wife...and die in his arms. It is a pain that rips apart his heart and soul. He had come to accept that he would never see her again. Cable knows this. And yet...
"Shh..." Aliya, admonishes. "There's a clearing up ahead. "...By the Mother Askani'..."
"Something wrong?" Nathan asks.
"Luck is not with us today." Aliya, replies. "Beyond that clearing waits our enemy...the scions of the High Lord. We need to make our way over there, across the valley."
"'Scions of the High Lord'? Stryfe!" Nathan spits the name of his hated clone, as they resume their journey. "Jenskot, be careful. There have to be perimeter guards all over the place."
"We must move quickly." Aliya, tells him. "Dayspring's life is hanging by a thread. Surely you understand that if you can't save him, then our people...everything will be lost."
"Aliya..." Nathan reaches out and takes her by her arm. "...I know we don't have much time...but I wanted you to know...I...just be careful. I wouldn't want anything to happen..."
"Cable, the way you look at me sometimes..." Aliya, whispers, as he pulls her closer. "...I feel a bit afraid. But despite our current situation, I have faith Dayspring will survive this night."
Nathan's mind races, as he stares down into her beautiful eyes.

"She doesn't know...The one thing I've learned about time travel is that nothing is absolute." Then aloud he says, "Aliya...I..."
"Yes...Cable?" Aliya, whispers softly, not pulling away from his embrace.
Nathan's heart pounds in his own ears, as his thoughts continue to race. "What am I doing? I can't change the past. There is so much I wish I could tell her...Give her the knowledge that will keep her from ever..."
The attraction is undeniable. Until fate, with more than a little help from a brilliant flash of light, intercedes. The Mother Askani' knew the temptation that would face Cable once reunited with Aliya. And she had Blaquesmith send along another. The only person who could keep Cable anchored to his present.
Her name is Domino. She has been a friend, confidante, and soldier-in-arms with Cable for more years than either would like to admit. Of late their relationship has changed...into something more...complicated.
Less than seven minutes ago, she was burying a friend in a frozen yard in the Colorado Rockies. She felt a telepathic jolt, and then...She wasn't, as the expression goes, in Kansas anymore.
"Blaquesmith!" Dom yells, as she comes out of the teleportation field. "What do you think you are doing?!" Dom spins in mid-air, drawing her weapon and landing on her feet in the thick forest, thinking, "Was I...teleported? Can't tell where. Or, here's a more disturbing thought...when!"
"Dom?" Nathan asks, approaching her.
"Nathan?!" Dom spins to face him.
"I was not told you would be joined by another...ally." Aliya, states. "While I welcome her, I fear Stryfe's men saw the light from her time-jump."
"Then why don't we--?" Nathan begins.
"Hold on." Dom interrupts. "Did she say...Stryfe? Forgive me for walking in after the picture's started...Stryfe is here?"
"We must be quite." Aliya, tells her, turning as she notices movement in the branches above. "We have already drawn too much attention to ourselves." And with this, Aliya leaps into the tree branches above them.
"No time to explain now, Dom." Nathan tells her.
"Got it." Dom replies. "Where'd your friend disappear to?"
"Knowing her..." Nathan smiles. "...She's saving our necks."
A huge, grotesque, mutated soldier falls, lifeless at their feet with a dull thud.
"Ouch." Dom says. "That's gotta hurt. Good work. I'm impressed."
"Yep." Nathan says in a tone that Dom isn't quite sure she likes. "She has that effect on people."
"These troopers usually travel in packs." Aliya tells them, dropping down from above. "And if they do not psi-scan us, his uniform may help. Will you keep lookout?" Aliya asks Dom.
"You up to it, Dom?" Nathan asks. "Time travel can be...draining."
"No problem." Dom replies, studying how Nathan reacts to this woman, and thinking, "Now here's a day I never thought I'd live to see. Cable taking orders from somebody without so much as a peep. Who is this woman? Is she connected to Blaquesmith? Or...Tyler."
Nathan telepathically senses the approach of more soldiers. "Trouble." He quietly tells the others.
"This is a restricted area!" One of the huge guards orders. "Drop your weapons!"
"Now, Flat-scans!" Another guard chimes in. "Hands on your heads!"
"This traitor wears the mark of the Clan Chosen." The first guard notes, speaking of Aliya. "Our Lord will be most pleased."
Nathan telekinetically pulls the first guards tentacles from Aliya and telepathically shuts down the life sustaining functions of his brain, killing him instantly, then he checks on Dom through their psi-link. "Dom...?"
"Get your telepathic thoughts out of my head, Nate!" Dom replies, through their link. "'Cause I'm busy coverin' your back."
"Then, hit 'em hard." Nathan tells her. "This is take no prisoners time."
"Don't have to tell me twice." Dom replies.
"I...thank you." Aliya tells him, after the guards have been dispatched. "Your abilities will serve us well on our journey."
"Believe me, I'm still a novice." Nathan tells her. "But, I'm...glad you're safe."
"I don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure out where we are--" Dom begins.
"Then you must also know that time is of the essence. We--" Aliya begins to say, as she turns to resume their trek.
"One sec." Dom stops her, forming her hands into a 'T' and adding, "'T' on the field. I don't think we've been introduced. My name is Domino...and you are..."
"I do not know this expression...'T' on the field..." Aliya replies. "But, if my introduction will get us on our way, I am Aliya. My chosen Askani' name, however, is Jenskot."
"Aliya..." Dom repeats, her voice barely above a whisper. "Jen...Skot...oh, my Lord...Jenskot?!" Dom turns to face Nathan.
"Yes, Dom." Nathan replies solemnly. "It's Jenskot."

Soon, at the edge of Stryfe's camp.
"Nathan? Are we still psi-linked?" Dom asks, through the link, softly exploring to see if the link is, indeed still there.
"Yes." Nathan replies, through the link. "And I know what must be going through your mind--"
"My mind?" Dom asks. "How 'bout you? Nathan, you told me what happened that day. How in the middle of the battle you tried to get back to the camp before--"
"Yes..." Nathan stops her. "Yes...that's what happened. But what's important right now is that we both know things...about the future...about these people...be very careful what you reveal."
It seems like a simple request. However, it weighs heavily on Domino. For now she understands why Cable looks at Aliya the way he does. The way that had stoked the fires of jealousy in her heart when she first arrived. And Domino cannot help but wonder...If they survive this adventure...will anything ever be the same again?
Nathan, motions them both back and advances upon two perimeter guards. "The command is we ride at first light." The guard closest to Nathan says. "A day filled with blood, eh, M'Gyn?" The only surviving guard asks, for in the few seconds that M'Gyn's friend took to ask the question, Nathan has dispatched M'Gyn. "M'Gyn?" The second guard turns to find Nathan standing beside him, now in M'Gyn's hooded cloak. "You're not M'Gyn!"
"No." Nathan smiles, as he telepathically shuts down the life functions of this man's brain, just as he did the guards in the forest earlier. "I'm not." Nathan adds, as M'Gyn's friend drops dead at his feet. Dom silently slips forward and removes his cloak for herself.

Minutes later, in the heart of the camp, the trio slowly make their way through, while Nathan keeps them psi-shielded from Stryfe.
"Try not to make eye contact." Aliya tells them. "Stryfe is a powerful telepath. If he turns his attention this way and suspects our presence here, he will kill us all...with but a thought."
"Talk about your wrong turn at Albuquerque..." Dom whispers, as she notes how alien most of Stryfe's soldiers look.
"He must be very...close..." Nathan notes, as the effort it takes to keep them shielded suddenly triples. "It's taking everything I've got to..." *NNNGGHUNN* "...keep us cloaked from him..."
"YOU THERE!" A huge guard, with tusks and a ring through his nose, yells.
"Glorious Mother, no" Aliya whispers.
"WHAT'S WRONG WITH HIM?" The guard steps away from the largest tent in the camp, and approaches them.
"Is it not obvious?" Aliya asks the guard. "The man is ill. We're getting him medical aid, so he can be ready for the battle in the morning. Stand aside."
"THERE ARE NO PHYSICIANS HERE, GIRL." The guard booms, in a voice Dom's sure can be heard for miles. "THIS IS A RESTRICTED AREA AND--"
Nathan's left eye glows brighter, as he reaches out and enters the guards mind, "There's no reason to bother with us. Have a good night."
"THERE'S NO REASON TO BOTHER WITH YOU. HAVE A GOOD NIGHT." The huge guard repeats, as he steps away from them.
"Telepathy." Nathan smiles down at his companions, as they hurry past the huge tent. "It works every time."

No sooner are the trio past the tent, then a hand draws back the entrance, and a young man steps forth.

"All is quiet, Sir." The guard states, as he crosses his heart with one arm and bows his head to the young man.
"No." The young man says firmly. "There is something. Something...dangerous out there..."
His name is Stryfe. The Chaos Bringer. A genetically cloned duplicate of Nathan Dayspring, twisted by the teachings of the power-mad tyrant Apocalypse. But now, Apocalypse is gone. Defeated, and killed, by a young Nathan and his parents Slym and Redd Dayspring, during the Askani'-Led Revolution. But his Heir remains. More determined and more savage than ever. In the morning, he may achieve two of his lifelong ambitions. The total annihilation of the Rebels known as the Clan Chosen. And the death of his nemesis, his counterpart, his template, the Askani'Son.
Unable to locate the source of his unease, Stryfe turns and enters his tent. In the center of which, hangs a man, suspended by ropes from above. A man that shows signs of being tortured. Stryfe speaks to the man.
"Perhaps I am too anxious. My...spies tell me that Dayspring gets weaker by the moment. He may not last the night. It would be a shame not to have the pleasure of killing him with my bare hands. Ch'Vayre did his job well. I trained many years to unleash such a psionic attack." Stryfe pauses to telekinetically summon a glowing bottle to his hands. "You will find, my friend, that the Askani' were not prepared for everything. And I found Dayspring gloriously unaware of how to protect himself. Tell me, Tetherblood, you've known my adversary nearly as long as I. Perhaps answering this riddle will bring you a few more hours...What connection does Dayspring have to this seemingly innocent glowing object? I've scanned it repeatedly and it doesn't appear to be the least bit sentient. Tell me. Tell me what secret Dayspring withholds from us all."
*PTOOH* Tetherblood spits into Syryfe's face.
"Tetherblood." Stryfe says, while wiping the spittle from his cheek. "You are either a very brave man...or a very foolish one. In either case, you will tell me what I want to know...or you will be a very dead man."

Minutes later, Nathan, Aliya and Dom stop in front of a beautiful waterfall.
"I...I need to stop." Nathan tells them, as he sits down on a boulder by the falls. "Holding up that T.K. shield was harder than I thought it would be."
"What's wrong?" Dom asks. "Are we nearly there?"
Aliya notes the worry in Dom's voice, and wonders, "The concern in her voice. Is it over the success of the mission...or...?"
"The further we get from Stryfe's camp, the stronger I feel." Nathan explains. "The pain...it's somehow...familiar. Maybe it relates to the attack on Dayspring..."
Aliya wets a cloth in the falls, "Here, this will cool your brow." And proceeds to wipe Nathan's forehead with it.
"Um....Ahem." Dom interrupts. "Listen. I don't mean to...interrupt...I may not know much about this terrain, But I've been in enough firefights to know that we're sitting ducks out here."
Suddenly...several people drop down from the branches overhead.
"Cable, we've got company!" Dom warns, as she brings her weapon to bear.
"" Aliya shouts. "Domino, hold your fire! These newcomers are more than friends...they are my Clanmates!"
"Aliya?" The foremost of them greets her. "Aliya, thank the Bright Lady...you've returned! I've prayed that your journey was safe, my brave one."
"Korless!" Aliya greets him, in turn. "I've brought help. I brought him. The man called Cable."
"Um...hello." Nathan greets his Clanmates.
"It can't be! He so closely resembles..."
A male states dumbfounded.
"The...Chosen One...yes." Dawnsilk finishes. "But, older...that is impossible."
Their voices cannot hide their awe...for looking into the face of the older Dayspring...they fear their own future may not be an easy one...

Minutes later, as the group nears their camp.
"Nathan?" Dom asks, softly.
"Yes, Dom?"
"So, this is it? This is your team? The good guys? What was their name...the Clan Chosen, right?"
"Pretty much." Nathan replies.
"Must feel like...coming home." Dom notes.
"Does and oddly, it doesn't." Nathan tells her. "Some of these people are not familiar. Like this Korless..."
"And that concerns you?" Dom asks. "Come on, Nathan, there have to be some things that won't fit exactly right. Memory's a funny thing."
"To quote Xavier:" Nathan says in reply. "Everything concerns me."
"If you're quoting Xavier, we must be in real trouble." Dom remarks.
Nathan chooses to ignore the remark and, instead, catches up to Aliya and asks. "Aliya, now that we're here, what happened to Dayspring?"
"As I told you in the earlier era." Aliya explains. "He fell ill...suddenly...mysteriously...we believe the ailment may be psionic in nature. There is even talk of a traitor in our fold. I do not believe it. But, I must tell you...one among us is missing...The one called...Tetherblood."
"Tetherblood?!" Nathan thinks. "Oh, my friend...unless someone or something is has altered the time stream, I know you're not capable of...Never."
"Cable." Dom interrupts his thoughts, as they walk through the camp. "The way they look at you. The hope in their eyes."
"I know." Nathan replies. "Reminds me...of the good we achieved. That much I remember."
"Mother?" A young child asks his mom, as he points towards Nathan. "Is He going to be our new leader?"
"Is that why they brought you here?" Dom asks, upon overhearing the boy. "If Dayspring dies, are you supposed to lead these people into battle?"
"Dom, if Dayspring dies...God help us all." Nathan replies somberly.
"Blaquesmith!" Dom's voice turns icy cold upon seeing the small, bug-eyed little man. "What a pleasure to see you here."
"Nathan..." The younger version of 'Smith greets him. "My heart soars at seeing you as a full grown man."
"Old friend," Nathan returns the greeting. "It is good to see you, too. But from what I understand, we haven't got much time. Where is Dayspring."
"Well." Dom notes. "You two sure have known each other longer than you let on."
"Domino." Aliya tells her. "I must caution you with regards as to how you speak to him."
"Since when is he--" Dom starts to protest.
"Domino." Nathan silences her with his eyes more than his lips.
"I will take you to him, Cable." Aliya tells him, as she takes his arm and leads him into a tent.
"Just a second, Blaquesmith." Dom stops him from following Nathan and Aliya. "I think I've been patient so far. But I need some answers. I get why Cable needs to be here...But why me? Especially with Jenskot around. It doesn't make any sense...What the heck am I doing here?"
"I would like to help." 'Smith replies. "But you are not familiar to me...and there is no simple answer."
"Fine." Dom tells him. "Any answer will do. Three can be a crowd, if you know what I mean."

As Nathan and Aliya enter the sanctum...
"Cable, he grows worse." Aliya tells him, noting young Dayspring's condition. "It is so difficult to see him this way. Can you help him?"
"Thought I'd seen just about everything." Cable thinks. "But nothing could have prepared me for this." As his mind reels with psionic pain he tells Aliya, "Psionic backlash...both of us...being here at once...**NNGGHN*
Cable agonizes through the pain. The paradox that is time. The irony is not lost on him. Aliya, the woman he would give his life for, leading him to his younger self who now lies overcome with fever, very near death. He is nearly overwhelmed by the wonder of possibilities that lay before him. How he could, with a single action, relive his life with all the knowledge of the past mistakes and hardship. He could save Aliya and Tyler. Avoid all the pain and loss. And yet...
He also knows the danger in altering the time stream and how it may adversely affect all their lives...
"Every action I take..." Nathan's mind races. "...The consequences are staggering. Is this then the Askani' plan all along? Another trial...another test...for the so-called 'Chosen One' This may be too much to ask, to be faced with the past...there is so much I want to tell him. But I can't let them down...got to try and get through to Dayspring...make him understand that I'm here to help. In fighting off Stryfe's psionic attack...he is unknowingly fighting off me." Nathan tries harder to push through his younger self's psionic defenses. "Please...let me help you."
"Cable..." Aliya asks. "Can you do what is necessary to save the Askani'Son's life?"
"I know what she's asking me." Nathan thinks. "If it becomes necessary...am I willing to sacrifice myself? As she will someday..." Nathan sets himself to try again to reach young Dayspring. "Dayspring...open your mind to me..."
"Who?" Young Dayspring asks telepathically.
"A friend." Nathan replies.
"No." Young Dayspring replies. "I know those patterns...they can be only one other person...Stryfe!"
"NO!" Nathan screams through the link. "You're wrong! Boy, Don't!"
*AARGH* Nathan, Aliya and young Dayspring all scream in agony, as young Dayspring lashes out psionically at what he thinks is another attack.
"He psionically attacked us." Nathan turns to Aliya. "Almost on reflex. Aliya!?"
"I...I'm all right." Aliya tells him. "Dayspring has trained me how to defend myself against such an attack. Did you learn what ails him?"
"Maybe." Nathan replies. "I'm not sure. Aliya, at this point in my...his life, there should be...a connection...a friend." Nathan removes the Askani' medallion from his neck and assumes the position for meditation, and then rises, from the floor, the medallion hovering a few feet in front of his face, his mind reaching out...seeking..."Have to do this delicately. Don't want to tip off Stryfe.."
It takes every ounce of concentration. Nathan's mind reaches out, threading the psionic plane like a tiny wire...searching for a microscopic outlet. In the faint hope of...Contact.

"Is that you, Nathan?"

Professor asks.

In that moment. In the heart of Stryfe's camp. Stryfe picks up the glowing bottle, inspecting it...
"Is it possible?" Stryfe asks. "For the briefest of seconds I sensed...sentience from this...light. I knew it's secrets could not be hidden much longer. At first I did not believe my source...or the legends...That Dayspring is aided by a being...technology from a far-advanced race. He is...vulnerable to attack without it. Thankfully my source was correct and Dayspring will surely die. At dawn, his pathetic band will be obliterated."
Unnoticed by Stryfe, the object glows only slightly brighter...

While back in the Clan Chosen's camp...
"Go on." Dom tells 'Smith.
"As I was saying..." 'Smith continues. "You have come on the eve of the most crucial battle the children of the Askani' have yet to face. If this battle is not won, then both our worlds, past and future will be lost. Although I am in a quandary as to why you are included in this mission. Other than that which all Askani' know: Each person has a role to play...and yours must be a key one."
"Once again," Dom tells him. "Nathan's life...and any chance for happiness, is being disrupted by Stryfe. Is that why I am here? To put an end to that cycle?"
Blaquesmith does not answer. Leaving Domino to interpret his silence.

Later, Nathan addresses the Elders of the Clan...
"I wouldn't be asking this of you...any of you...if I didn't think it would help save Dayspring's life. But I can't give you a guarantee that this isn't anything other than a suicide mission."
"I speak for all of us, Cable." Korless replies. "We will follow you as we would Dayspring. But if this battle involves a traitor...I want the honor of dealing with Tetherblood myself. We await your orders, Cable."
"Yes, my orders." Nathan thinks. "I'm back here, fighting the good fight. And Aliya at my side. I could almost get lost in it....The idea of leaving her again...But, it's different this time. Dom is here..." Nathan turns scanning the camp, and then asks, "Dom? Where is Domino?"

Minutes later, at Stryfe's camp...
"Something is wrong." Stryfe thinks, telepathically scanning the area. "I sense danger...an enemy. Someone who thinks they can shield their thoughts from a telepath. They are mistaken." Stryfe then warns his men, "Guards! Stand alert!"

A few hundred yards away, Dom has Stryfe locked in her sights, prepared to fire...
"Can I do it? Irrevocably change history? Will it mean that Cable will never come into the past? And end this insanity here and now? Or will it only make things worse...?"
"I can't let you do it, Dom." Nathan steps forward, interrupting her thoughts. "This isn't the way to stop Stryfe!"
"What...Nathan, no!" Dom tells him. "We can put an end to this here and now!" Dom's finger tightens on the trigger.
"Give me that gun!" Nathan grabs the gun, and deflects the blast, causing her shot to go wide of the target.
"Now you've done it!" Dom tells him. "They're gonna be right on our tail's! Let go of me! C'mon, Nathan, you know what Stryfe is capable of. We're doing the world a favor. Think of all the lives that could be saved...Aliya's life..."

"Guards!" Stryfe yells. "The enemy in our perimeter is becoming very tiresome. Find whoever fired that shot and bring me his head!"

"Believe it or not, Dom." Nathan tells her, gently placing his hand on her cheek. "I would have tried the same thing years ago. But time isn't absolute, and what's intended to be constructive winds up as destructive. I tried to explain that to Tyler."
"On the other hand," Dom replies, "How do you know I wasn't brought here to do what you couldn't? To kill Stryfe." Dom pauses a moment, then looks into Nathan's eyes and continues. "I've seen how you look at Aliya. Can you tell me there isn't some part of you that wants to change what happened?"
"Domino..." Nathan begins.

BOOM BOOM BOOM

"Plasma blasts in the opposite direction!" Stryfe yells. "What arrogance to think they could catch me unaware! Kill the lot of them!"

"Dom, that's Jenskot buying us some time." Nathan explains. "This is it, we've gotta move in now! I know Stryfe has something...something we need." Nathan pauses a moment, thinking, "Maybe Dom is right. Maybe I should be with Aliya...Protect her before it's too late..."
"Having second thoughts?" Dom asks.
"Always do." Nathan replies. "Come on. And for the record, Dom. There's nobody else I'd want covering my back."
Dom knows that he picks up the joy that his words bring to her heart, through their psi-link.

Minutes later, at Stryfe's camp...Dom silently takes out the guard in front of the tent, while Nathan takes out the one in back.
"That one give you any trouble?" Dom asks him, when she drags the body of the guard behind the tent.
"Nothing I couldn't handle." Nathan replies. "Ready to stick your head in the lion's mouth? I don't know how long I can block Stryfe psionically. If he finds out how close we are, it's all over. So let's get this over with." With that, they enter the tent, ready for anything.
"Nathan, we've got a man down." Dom tells him, as she checks Tetherblood's condition. "Looks like he's been tortured."
"Tetherblood! Is he all right?" Nathan asks.
"He'll live." Dom replies. "You sound funny, Nate. What's wrong?"
"This is what we came for, Dom." Nathan replies, as he, oh so gently picks up the glowing bottle. "This is what Stryfe has taken from Dayspring. The Professor!" Nathan telepathically greets his old friend. "Hello, my friend."

"Greetings, Nathan. You've come across the eons. There is still hope for young Dayspring."

"As you always taught me." Nathan replies.
"Yes. But I never thought you were listening."

"Dayspring?" Tetherblood asks, upon seeing Nathan. "Can it be?"
"Tetherblood, what happened here?" Nathan asks. "How did Stryfe capture you and the Professor?"
"Stryfe had help." A voice answers from behind them.
"Korless!" Nathan spits the name. "Why am I not surprised?"
"Because you are like me, Nathan Dayspring." Korless replies, his gun never wavering from them. "A visionary...an agent of the infinity of...possibilities. There is nothing you can do, Cable. Stryfe will surely win the battle and Dayspring will die. Leaving a place for me in the new world order. You're too late, Askani'Son. I have changed the course of history."

Outside, Stryfe observes Aliya's attack from a nearby hill.
"Fight on, my Clanmates." Aliya orders. "The larger battle still lies ahead. We cannot allow defeat!"
"That woman!" Stryfe observes. "Such fire burns within her. Though she sides with Dayspring...someday, that will change. This I know. This I swear! But her actions are clearly a diversion, and curse me for being the fool who was drawn away!" With this Stryfe turns and runs back towards his tent.

Where...
"Since the fall of the High Lord, Apocalypse, the world has become a harder, harsher place." Korless continues. "And if one is to survive, we must abandon the pathetic hope of the Askani'. So few understand this. But our Lord Stryfe does. And he has chosen me as deliverer. I am doing what I must."
"Stryfe's nearby." Nathan telepathically tells his companions. "I can sense him. Professor?"

"Yes, Nathan?"

"Can you access my memory?" Nathan asks.
"Of course. We are still linked, as we always will be."

"Then I need your help with something that you will someday teach me. Bodyslide us out of here. Now!"
"As you wish, Nathan."

"No..." Korless protests, as Nathan and the others vanish, just as the tent flap is threw back and Stryfe enters.
"Tell me 'trusted' Korless," Stryfe asks. "What brings you into my camp? And where is the Dayspring light? I give you such a simple task. I am very disappointed. Did you think you could fail me? Your next assignment will be less comfortable...but no less time spanning." Korless' screams can be heard throughout the entire camp.

"Bodyslide completed."
Professor informs them.
"We are in the Askani' camp. I suggest you bring Tetherblood to the physicians and me to young Nathan posthaste."

"Blaquesmith?" Nathan asks, upon entering young Dayspring's tent. "How is Dayspring?"
"Stryfe's attack was a powerful and clever one." 'Smith replies. "But the boy will only grow stronger if directed by you and his guide. Did you bring the Professor? He must have you both if he is to survive. You don't remember much of this time of your life, do you, Cable? You and the Professor were linked, life-force to life-force."
"And Stryfe knew that." Nathan replies. "But we have the Professor here." Nathan holds the glowing bottle, with Professor inside, close and says, "It is time, old friend. You once told me you would be whatever I needed you to be...Friend...Mentor...Professor. Right now, Dayspring needs all the strength we both have...We need to focus."
"I understand."
Professor replies.
"And once this is all over," Nathan tells him, softly. "I know he will carry you with him...for many years to come."
"Nathan," Blaquesmith smiles up at him. "Once more you show us all, why it is you who are the Chosen One.

Several minutes later, on a hill overlooking the camp, Nathan approaches Aliya...
"Dayspring will live." He tells her.
"Without you..." Aliya replies. "I don't know what I...what we would have done. I know how difficult this all has been for you, Cable. There are no words of gratitude that can truly express what I feel...But there is something they say in Askani'...

...it means--"
"Yes, I know." Nathan reaches out and gently strokes her cheek. "'Forever'" Nathan's voice cracks, as his mind races back to the last time he's heard that word, "It's the word we chose for our wedding vow..." He remembers.
"Cable..?" Aliya asks. "Nathan..?"
Nathan's breath comes in short gasps, and his eyes glisten with tears, as he places his finger on her lips and tells her,
"Love Dayspring with all you heart, Aliya. Believe me, He will love you...Forever."
As Nathan turns and walks away, a single tear breaks free and trails down his cheek. A tear that is matched by the one's being shed by Domino...who watches from a nearby knoll.

Minutes later, Nathan and Dom approach Blaquesmith...
"Blaquesmith. It's time." Nathan tells him.
"Yes, Nathan." 'Smith telepathically tells him. "It is the time for you to return."

"Commence interface with the time jump continuum."
Professor announces as he begins the time jump, to return Nathan and Dom home.
"Nathan, are you sure?" Dom asks, softly.
"Domino," Nathan takes her hand in his own, "I...don't belong here now. We can't live in the past..." He looks deep into Domino's beautiful, still glistening eyes, "Not when there is so much to look forward to...in all our tomorrows."
In a bright flash...they are gone...
"Safe Journey..." Blaquesmith smiles softly, "Askani'Son"
