Emera, Coyote and Shawn followed Roc deep into the forest for what seemed like miles. After a
while, they came to a small hut.
"This is my home," said Roc, "I built it all myself."
Roc gave Emera a big smile as he showed off his little house.
"Coyote, you can take the human-cat and go in and rest and eat while I take your sheep friend and get him some food," Roc said as he led Shawn away.
Emera and Coyote walked inside and found a small bench to sit on. They looked around and saw a small table and a bed in the corner and some cabinets against the wall.
"How are you feeling?" she asked Coyote.
Coyote sat down on the bench and scratched behind his ear. "I'm a little hungry. . . how about you?"
EmeraCat nodded and looked toward the cabinets. "Me, too," she said. "I wonder where Roc is keeping the food?"
With that, Emera and Coyote opened the cabinets and searched them until they found a loaf of bread and some honey. Coyote put some napkins, paper plates and cups on the table and filled the cups with water as Emera made sandwiches for him and her.
Coyote and Emera sat down at the table and ate their sandwiches, then licked their fingers clean of the honey. Emera picked up her napkin and wiped a bit of honey from the corner of the Coyote's mouth, and they both smiled.
"I'm glad the trip is over now," Coyote said, "but we can't stay with Roc forever. We should find a place we can call our own home."
Emera nodded her agreement. "We will find a place. We've come this far, after all!"
The cabin door opened, and Roc walked in. "We must be going now," he said. "There is much of the island for you to see, you see! Come, come, follow me for a bit."
Emera, Coyote, and Shawn walked with Roc back behind the cabin. Roc pointed out a path that led into thick woods. Emera and Coyote looked down the path as Roc explained behind them, "This path will take you to a magical lake. The pond's water is clean and fresh, and many trees full of fruit grow around the glade. I would go with you, but my home is here; and that path is yours, not mine."
Coyote turned around to ask Roc what he meant, but when he turned around, the gruffy was gone!
Emera looked at Coyote and shrugged her shoulders, then the three followed the small path deep into the forest.
Before long, they could see the pond that Roc had described. As they got closer, they saw a strange woman standing next to the pond.
"Who could she be?" Emera and Coyote wondered.
