Notes: This one takes place after "Displaced" FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS By: Lauren Taylor "Come on, Kes. You've got to beat the master at this someday." Harry told her from across the pool table. "What do you mean, beat the master? I've already beat Tom." Kes smiled at him. At a table next to the little friendly banter sat Janeway, Neelix and B'Elanna, enthralled at what was happening between the two of them. "B'Elanna, get up and help her. I'll give her a chance at beating you." Harry told her. "Don't worry, Kes. It isn't that hard to beat Harry at pool. I've done it more times than I can imagine." B'Elanna grinned in Harry's direction. She walked over to Kes and stood behind her, helping her learn how to hold the pool cue correctly. The two women had both their hands on the cue, B'Elanna's guiding Kes. A phaser blast rang out, and Harry was knocked to the floor. The others in the holodeck watched in stunned silence. Janeway stood up and looked at something in the doorway of Sandrines, seeing if she could see someone. She started to open her mouth, as if she had seen something when another phaser blast came, this time to Kes. B'Elanna was knocked back when Kes fell, and layed down on the floor, paralyzed with fear. There were two more shots, this time to the captain and Neelix. B'Elanna looked to the side of the pool table to see an arm draw the phaser back from the doorway, and then heard someone run off. B'Elanna pulled a shaky hand up to her comm badge, and lightly tapped it. "Torres to security. We need security personnel in holodeck two." she said in a quiet voice. "Sorry I'm late, everyone!" she heard Tom call out from the doorway of Sandrine's. She looked over to see him staring in stunned silence at what lay before him. B'Elanna crawled out from behind the pool table, realizing that she couldn't put any weight on her left arm due to a phaser burn. "Tom." she whispered. He looked over at her, and looked relieved that she was alive. He ran over to her, and helped her stand up. "What happened?" he asked as three security officers ran into the holodeck, including Tuvok. "I- I'm not really sure. We were all in here just playing pool and joking around, and then..." her voice trailed off as she wrapped her arms around Tom and began crying. He ran his fingers through her hair, and whispered to her. "It's alright. It's alright. It's alright." he repeated over and over. Somehow, though, in the back of his mind, he doubted what he was saying. TO BE CONTINUED Legal mumbo jumbo: Yeah, yeah, Voyager not mine, everything else MINE MINE MINE!
