CHANGE OF COMMAND 
Part Six: Signs of Affection

"Harry?" Kes walked into the main room of their quarters. He jumped to
attention as soon as he saw her, knowing full well that the baby was due
any day now.
"What is it?" he ran to her side.
"It's time." she said.

"Sickbay to the captain. I thought you would be interested to know that
Kes is in sickbay now, ready to have her daughter." the doctor's voice
informed the bridge crew. B'Elanna grinned, and looked over at Tom, who
had the same look on his face as she did.
"Alert me the second there's any news, Doc." B'Elanna told sickbay. She
stood up from her chair, and walked down to her husband. He looked up at
her, and mouthed the words 'I love you'. She responded back by mouthing
the words 'I love you, too.' The bridge crew was getting used to these
daily episodes of affection. Tom and B'Elanna were almost nauseating with
how many 'I love you's' and kisses and hugs they shared everyday. 
"Doctor to the bridge." B'Elanna looked up from gazing at Tom, and hit
her comm badge.
"Bridge here. Any news?" she asked.
"Mr. Kim and Kes are the parents of a healthy baby girl. Ileana Kathryn
Kim."

        Captain Torres walked into sickbay with Tom by her side. The two
of them were greeted by the sight of Kes asleep on the biobed, and Harry
sitting on a stool beside her, holding his daughter. He looked up when he
heard the doors open, and grinned at his two best friends.
"Hey, Starfleet." B'Elanna smiled as she looked down at the baby. Ileana
looked just like Harry, with the raven hair and dark, almond-shaped eyes,
but she had Kes' Ocampan ears. The baby was asleep, but just starting to
wake up. Harry stood up, and handed Ileana to B'Elanna. She looked down
at the baby, and thought about how, someday, she hoped to be holding her
own baby. Her and Tom had been trying to have children ever since they
got married three months ago, but no success. They made a goal for
themselves, though. By the time that Voyager got home, which was expected
to be about ten months from now, B'Elanna would be pregnant. She smiled
down at her friend's baby.
"Welcome to the crew, Ileana." she whispered, praying that she, too,
would someday have a child of her own to say that to.
