CHANGE OF COMMAND
Part 12: Boy or Girl?

        Had it really been three months since he last saw B'Elanna? Tom
hated to admit it, but the time had gone by a lot quicker than he thought
it would. He was having fun on Voyager. He'd become great friends with
the chief engineer, Quinn Matthews, and there was one pretty familiar
face. The good old holodoc was still here. 

"Hey, Tom!" he heard Quinn call out from across the mess hall.

"What is it?" Tom asked as Quinn sat down, holding a PADD.

"I got the list of the engineering students that are coming aboard later
today for a field study. Don't you know this girl?" Quinn asked as he
held out the PADD. On it was the name Kim, Ileana Kathryn, and a picture
of her. 

Tom smiled to himself, and looked at her picture. It must have been taken
recently. She looked so different from the last time he'd seen her. Her
hair, which used to be long, was now shoulder length, and she looked
older, just about Quinn's age.

"Yeah, I know her. She's my best friend's daughter." Tom laughed.

"I thought her picture looked familiar. I remember seeing a picture of
her and her parents in your quarters. She'll be here later today, and
Captain Benton wants the students to try and stay with a crewmember if
there's one that they know."

"Looks like I've got a houseguest then!" he smiled.

"Illie! Wait!" B'Elanna called out. Illie was just getting onto the
shuttle to leave for Voyager when she saw the four-months pregnant
B'Elanna running after her. Illie turned and ran to B'Elanna.

"What?" she asked. B'Elanna held out a picture PADD to her.

"Please give this to Tom. And tell him that I love him." B'Elanna told
her. Illie nodded and smiled.

"Illie!" Tom called out through the crowd of Starfleet cadets. Illie
looked around to see where the voice was, and saw Tom standing next to a
rather cute guy, in her opinion. She ran to him, and he sweeped her up in
a huge hug. 

"Illie, this is Quinn Matthews, the chief engineer." Tom told her. Quinn
stopped gawking long enough to shake her hand. Illie grinned like a young
teenager meeting the man of their dreams. She snapped out of her little
fantasy world when she realized what she had for Tom.

"Tom. I almost forgot. B'Elanna wanted me to give you this." Illie said
as she pulled the picture PADD out of her bag. She handed it to him, and
he looked at it curiously.

"What is it?" he asked, holding out the weird, computer generated,
black-and-white picture.

"It's your son." Illie answered with a grin.
