Author's Note: I look back on my old work and it's very strange to me. Some of this is from another story, that I called "Fairy Light" that I started writing when I first started getting into Voyager. The ideas were good- but obviously over the few years I had to change the characters, not to mention personalities. In the beginning, whoever thought that Paris and Torres would make a good couple? Certainly not I. However, I have seen the light. The "Fairy Light," you might say. ;) "No Such Thing as Faeries" By Ardelle To my dear cousin Lena- for believing. Part 1: "It was a little person." "I can't be pregnant! Not me!" "I assure, Miss Torres, the tricorder does not lie." "Give me that!" A very upset B'Elanna Torres grabbed the tricorder. Sure, her body functions showed all the signs of pregnancy, but that could just be caused by some crazy anomaly, couldn't it? Surely she couldn't be pregnant. Not *her*. It just want possible, not possible at all! Her and Tom...they had only been dating a few months, they couldn't... B'Elanna felt a headache coming on. She hit her comm badge. "Torres to Paris." "Paris here." "Uh, Tom, you'd better come down here." "Where are you?" "Sickbay. We're gonna have a baby." B'Elanna couldn't see him, but Tom broke out in a cold sweat. *** It was as if some malevolent outside force had planned the whole thing just to amuse itself... -Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Players Guide First Edition(White Wolf Publishing Co.) *** Tlyn giggled, a silvery music note that filled the Jeffries tube. Humans had lost all sense in the last centuries, particularly when they started traveling space. They'd abandoned all superstition- that had been their downfall. Humans thought they'd gotten everything figured out, when in all real truths, technology had drawn them away from reality. True reality, to them now, was unbelievable. There was no such thing as faeries, bogeys, Folk. The faeries of Earth(and of other planets) found this very disappointing. Save the Continuum. Oh, the Q! Thought they could be masters of all the fae. Ended up getting their condescending butts kicked, had to bother humans, especially the ones that horribly lost. The humans found even Q and his boring "I'm-Better-Than-You" antics hard to believe. They slapped scientific technobabble on anything they didn't understand- which was everything. All of it was made up- one amazing fae's hilarious trick. The humans(and their alien friends) only *thought* they knew what they were talking about. All of it was pure fae magick. All of the fae were laughing now. This "new technology" made many opportunities for the funniest pranks. For those who were brave enough to travel outside the Mound. Tlyn made her way through the winding corridors and opened a console with no problem. She was about to remove one of the gel packs- she and her friends Fwry and Gantrayria loved to bat it about for a while, then magick it and put it pack when they grew bored of it. It was fun to see their poor engineer fret over it, try to assign some knew malfunction to it. Somehow, she was startled by a monotone voice from behind her. "What are you doing?" *Pop out, pop out!* Tlyn could hear her friends think. *Change shape, change color! She won't believe what she saw!* Yet Tlyn could no none of these things, and the freaky-odd lady had gotten a hold of her. She tapped that thing they called a "comm badge." "Seven to security," she said flatly, "Intruder alert." *** Should you ever catch a fae, demand its gold and don't blink. The minute you blink, or your attention is diverted, they'll be gone and you'll be a fool. Be careful- for they will try to trick you. *** "Tell me Seven, what was it again you saw." "It was a little person, not even reaching my elbow. I couldn't discern any gender. It had upswept eyebrows and pointed ears not unlike Tuvok's, though they seemed...different. Softer. The intruder had tan skin and large dark eyes and unkept black hair. It was clothed in green, with odd curled shoes and a green pointed cap. They were very think and their fingers were very long." "You said you grabbed it?" Kathryn Janeway arched an eyebrow. "Yes," Seven replied. "When the security team arrived, I looked up. Then the creature was gone." "I've looked her over," said the Doctor, "And there's absolutely nothing wrong with her. I've scanned her twice over." "Well, then we need to think about what we might be dealing with," said Chakotay. They all knew it could very well be some alien plaguing Seven with strange visions for their own personal evil. Or something of that nature. The crew of Voyager was used to that- they could deal with it. They weren't used to dealing with the fae. They would learn to be superstitious again. Especially if that's what it took to survive. Puck watched from the window and vowed it so. Tlyn's mistake had been foolish, but it had set these mortals on edge. That made for a pretty damn funny prank-fest...if you were a fae watching. TO BE CONTINUED...
