Overcoming childhood (or any) type of sexual abuse can be a lifelong"
journey. The effects from your childhood can pop up later in life
even if you have had no previous memories of the abuse.

You can live your life with memory lapses or periods of "amnesia"
and later on start having "flashbacks", nightmares, or memories.
One may even start to question their own memories and think
they are "crazy" or "making it up", especially when you share your
memories and concerns with others and they don't believe you
or offer support.

Childhood abuse of any type, whether it be sexual, emotional, physical
or any combination of the three can leave a person with other
psychological and even physical ailments, including..

There are many other effects that can haunt a person overcoming/dealing
with issues of abuse, these are just a few.

Usually, these effects come at a time in life when things are "calm"
and "happy" or "normal" It's almost as if your mind is strong enough
at that time to deal with it and chooses that time to remember and
try to heal. This can be very scary.
