Northeastern China, Korea
Size:
To about 2-1/2'
Temperament:
Very calm for a small frog - not panic prone.
Hardiness:
Very hardy when set up and maintained properly.
Food:
Nutrient fed and vitamin/calcium coated crickets and other small insects,
also
raw fish, earth-
worm
section and feeder guppies can be offered with forceps.
Housing:
a 10 gallon aquarium is suitable for a small group of up to 6-8 toads.
Use
a bare or sand
substrate.
Provide a water depth of 2-4", create hauling out (land) area with
large
flat rocks, cork
bark
floats and floating water plants.
Water
Use only aged or dechlorinated water, preferably filtered.
Temperature:
Day 68 degrees- 78 degrees, with high humidity.
Lighting:
Full Spectrum lighting/ U.V. radiation is recommended for long term
maintenance
of Firebelly
Toads.
Heating:
Unless in very cold climates, supplemental heat is not required
for
this species under
normal
conditions.

Size:
Females up to 4", males somewhat smaller.
Temperament;
Mellow, calm disposition, can be housed in large groups.
Food:
Nutrient fed and vitamin/calcium coated crickets, butter worms, earthworms,
jumbo
meal worms,
beetles,
meal worms, pink mice and feeder
goldfish
offered from forceps.
Water:
Provide a large shallow pan of fresh water for drinking, soaking
and
defecation. Use only aged
dechlorinated/dechloramined
water and clean frequently as needed.
Temperature:
day 65 degrees- 78 degree , night 58 degrees- 72 degrees.
Some
humidity is
provided
by large water pan, clumps of damp moss, and an occasional
misting
of terrarium.
Lighting:
Being nocturnal, full spectrum lighting/U.V. radiation is not required
for
Common Toads.
Although
some type of lighting should be provided during daylight hours
if
live plants are included,
use
a plant light bulb.

Names: Eastern Newt, Red Spotted Newt (juvenile land stage -Eft)

Distribution:
Eastern U.S.A.
Size:
Up to 4', Usually about 3".
Temperament:
Very compatible in large groups or in community tanks.
Food:
Tubifex worms, night crawler section, daphnia and small insects. Takes
live, dried, and freeze
dried
foods.
Housing:
For ease of maintenance these newts can be set up in a 10 gallon aquarium
with a gravel substrate
and
plenty of aquatic plants.
Provide
a water depth of 4"-8". Add some rounded cork bark slabs (floats) for hauling
out purposes.
Temperature:
55 degrees- 75 degrees, this species prefers cooler temperatures.
Lighting:
Standard aquarium lighting
as
for tropical fish is sufficient for most Newts.

Housing:
A 10 gallon aquarium can house a group of these Newts. Use a gravel substrate
with a
water
level of 6"-10", add plenty of aquatic plants and some rounded cork bark
floats for hauling
out
purposes.
Temperature:
55 degrees- 72 degrees, this species prefers cooler temperatures.
Lighting:
Standard aquarium lighting as for tropical fish is sufficient for these
Newts.
Heating:
Supplemental heating is not needed for this species, under normal conditions.
