 Chapter One     -How Shasta Set out on His Travels

 
Shasta’s father is named Arsheesh. Shasta is interested in the north. A Tarkaan came and wants to buy
Shasta, Arsheesh says "He is precious to me." Shasta came in a boat to Arsheesh who praise himself for
helping Shasta. Shasta thinks " I could be anyone." The horse can talk. Shasta "would be better of dead
tonight than a human slave to the Tarkaan tomorrow." The horse and Shasta are going north. Shasta is of
northern stock. Shasta put the horses things on the horse and got on the horse. Shasta is to hang on by his
knees. Bree (the horse) and Shasta leave for the north.

Aravis was to marry a sixty year old rich man with a hump on his back. Aravis meant to kill herself, but Hwin
talked. She will go to Narnia. She wrote a letter. Her father does not look for her because of something he said
before. The letter said she was already married to the humpback now. She drugged a girl who was beaten.
They argue about what to do when they get to Tashbaan. They will assemble at the tombs. They will go in
disguise. They wish that they were past Tashbaan. They are in disguise. The horses shouldn’t talk.

     Activities            If you were in disguise, what would you be? Make a mask.
 

    Tashbaan is pretty. They wish they were through Tashbaan. They are in Tashbaan. Bree is leading Shasta.
Most were stopping lot because of the "important people". The Narnians walk by. They think that Shasta is
someone else. Shasta acts like a Calorman slave. They think that Shasta is Corin. The faun (Mr. Tumnus) is
there. Shasta drinks sherbert, yum! Queen Susan will not marry Prince Rabadash. Prince Rabadash is mean.

     Activities

     Have someone come dressed exactly like you and answer to his/her name and have them answer to
     yours. Or make a city model.
 
 

Prince Rabadash loves Queen Susan. Prince Rabadash may make Queen Susan his wife by force. There is an
easy way from the tombs to Mount Pire. The moles planted trees. They will pretend to like the evil prince and
sail away. They start carrying out the plans. Shasta eats supper. Supper is his last meal in Tashbaan. It is
better to go to Narnia by sea. Prince Corin came in. Shasta will leave. He leaves. They have both had
adventures.

     Activities         Become a twin for a day, or send a valentine.
 
 

    Shasta is in the desert. Shasta is at the tombs. Shsta is the only person at the tombs. Something touched his
leg. It was a cat. A jackals cry reached Shasta’s ear. A lion turned into the cat. Shasta was mean to a cat once.,
Shasta has food now. Shasta swam. Bree and Hwin are there.

     Activities

     Do a report on your favorite animal. If it is lions, or monkeys, do your next favorite animal.
 

Aravis saw a friend of hers from school. Lasaraleen (her friend) must hide her. Aravis’s father is in town.
Narnian men look nicer than calormen men. Lasaraleen is a terrible giggler Whoever tells about Aravis being
there will die. Lasaraleen has a spoiled pet monkey. The horses and Aravis will get to the tombs. Even if they
get caught, they would not be punished. Aravis talks to the horses. Aravis dressed as a slave, hid behind a
couch. A door opened. The betrothed of Aravis came in with a young man and the Tisroc.

     Activities         Find out all you can about monkeys.

The Narnians escaped from Tashbaan. The Prince (the young man) kicked the hindquarters of the Vizer.
Rabadash wants to invade Narnia and take it by force, killing all but Queen Susan. Narnia is good and free.
Rabadash may be the best of sons. Rabadash tells of the battle plan including two hundred horses and riders.
The Tisroc can say "He did this secretly" if it fails. The Vizer makes a speech. They must be sure no one
knows but the Vizer, the Prince and the Tisroc (ha, ha, Lasaraleen and Aravis know). The Tisroc now wants to
kill anyone who heard this (uh-oh, danger, danger). The Tisroc approves, it might lengthen his life. They left.

     Activities         Research about Cuba.

The two girls leave. They part. Aravis is t the tombs. Aravis tells Shasta, Bree and Hwin about Rabadash’s
plans. Before the dawn the desert was gray as they headed to Mount Pire. He burnt his feet on the hot sand
when the sun rose. They are thirsty. They get into the valley. They find water. They slept. They go on. Hwin
set the pace.

     Activities        Tell why we need water.

They are in the North. They are in Archland. The army is coming. A lion comes. Shasta dove to help Hwin and
Aravis. Aravis got scratched by the lion. Shasta must go to see King Lune alone. They rest. Aravis’ back is
sore. Clouds are rolling in. Bree will go back. Bree won’t go back.

   4.Do you think that Shasta and Aravis
            should have more adventures together? (Other than Tashbaan –  Why? )

     Activities

     Bree changed his mind. Play Bree, who can move. ( Exactly like Mother May I , except Bree chooses
     who goes where ). Bree will change his mind while playing.
 

Shasta ran. Shasta tells King Lune to fly (run away). Rabadash and two hundred horses are coming. The king
stares at Shasta. Shasta cannot keep up with them. Shasta took a road to avoid Rabadash. Tabadash went to
King Lune’s town. Shasta followed the road. A person or thing is with Shasta. He is not a giant or a ghost;
Shasta tells of the lions on his journey. The thing is the only lion Shasta has ever seen or heard. The lion’s
name is Aslan. He now was alone on a grassy hill under a blue sky.

     Activities        Research lions.

Shasta drank. Shasta is hungry in Narnia. "A savage Calormen army is on its way, your don’t say" said the
Hedge hog. A dwarf finally realized the danger. The dwarf, who will give Shasta breakfast, sent word to the
capital of Narnia. Breakfast was wonderful. Shasta went to sleep. They will fight. Corin says hi to Shasta.
Edmund sees Shasta pleasantly. Corin may not fight. Corin fist fights Thorn but Shasta and Corin will fight.

     Activities        Write a report on foolishness.

Queen Susan is not there. Vultures come. They move into battle. Shasta knows nothing about war. The hermit
knew of the battle. Bree’s old master is there. Shasta knows nothing about war. Shasta is down. Shasta is
alive. Rabadash is stuck on the wall. A giant tore his mail shirt. Shasta and Corin are twins. King Lune hugs
him.

     Activities - Hug someone.
 

 They will not go to Narnia to-day. Aslan drove away the White Witch. "Aslan is not a lion", says Bree. Aslan
is a lion. Prince Cor comes. The Prince is a boy. Shasta is Prince Cor and so he shall be called. King Lune is
Prince Cor’s father. The Lord Bar kidnapped prince Cor when he was a baby. A knight took him to Arsheesh.
Aravis will live with king Lune and his family. Bree rolled.

     Activities - Make an evil Lord.
 

Cor (Shasta) rushed at a lion save Aravis. Queen Lucy welcomed Aravis. They ate and sent for Rabadash.
Rabadash will hear not their conditions. Aslan came. Rabadash started changing, he is now a donkey.
Ragadash was sent to the temple of Tash and was healed. They feasted. Prince Cor shall be king. Corin and
Cor fought (Corin became an expert fist-fighter). Aravis and Cor got married to each other.
