Dear Friends,
Thank you for your letter.
Kendo is one of the traditional sports. Fumi is a member of kendo club at school. We use a bamboo sword. We put a helmet and a protecter on us. Fumi likes kendo. We put no shoes. It is very hard to practice in the winter.
Do you practice kendo in India?

Dear Friends,
We tell about our royal family.
The birthday of the emperor is December 23. The day is a national holiday. The emperor lives in Royal palace in central Tokyo.
When we had Olympic games in Nagano we saw him in a car! We sometimes see the royal family on TV.
Princess Masako is beautiful. She is expected to have a baby. Her sister in Law has two dauters. But people in Japan expect to see a boy baby in the royal family.
Write back to us soon,

Dear Friends
Our school, Kobae Primary School, is from Grade 1 to Grade 6. After Grade 6 you go to Junior High School. There are only 15 students so the Grade 1 and 2's study together in the same classroom as do the Grade 3 and 4's and 5 and 6's. Its a small school but everyone is very cheerful and energetic. There are 8 teachers. The students who live nearby walk to school and those who live far away catch the bus. There are also some people who walk even though they live far away.

Dear Friends
There is no school uniform at our school. We wear name badges with our school name, name and grade written on them. We wear caps that can be turned inside out to be red or white and carry leather backpacks (boys usually have black, girls usually red or pink. The style is always the same and we have the same bag from Grade 1 to Grade 6. It is called a 'randoseru'.

Dear Friends
In February We have a school presentation where we get up in front of everyone and sing, perform plays, and do various presentations.
In July we have the village festival called the Onda-sai. We make portable shrines and carry them through the rice paddy.
October is the Sports Day. We are divided into two teams - red and white. We run and play various team games.
In December we make cakes, think of some sort of performance and have a Christmas Presentation.
As a year long school project we have a rice paddy in which we plant rice, in June, harvest it in October and in December we make 'mochi' compounded rice cakes). We pound it with a huge wooden mallet in a wooden bowl.
We have lots of interesting events and festivals.
