Boromir appeared to Faramir in a dream to tell him he'd been rejoined with their pet rabbit, who had not run away after all, but had been the unfortunate subject of Denethor's last pyromaniac frenzy. In retrospect, this also explained Denethor's reluctance, at the time, to tell them what comprised that night's mystery meat casserole.
