10 song CD, self released. 5 piece hardcore band from Alabama. Times of Silence are another band that is into putting quotes from movies that I have never seen. The recording is fairly rough, being recorded in some guy named Brads living room. Times of Silence definitely has talent, from the wicked sounding guitars to the extremely heavy drumming. Hopefully these guys will be able to gain some success, as they are simply amazing. Times of Silence are another band that would benefit with a lyrics sheet, as it is the only think sorely lacking in from the package that Stephen, the drummer, sent me. The inclusion of two vocalist really adds a new dimension to the band, for the most part they have one guy song somewhat normally and one screaming his brains out. Matt, the guitarist, knows exactly when to switch guitar riffs, so that Times of Silence never sound repetitive. Stephen is a master behind the drums, stringing together amazing sounding drumbeats and matching the other members in his intensity. During the middle of Submit My Life, Stephen gets into responding with drum solos very cool sounding guitars by Matt. In this song it can honestly be said that the vocals take a back seat to the amazing instrumentation by the other members of the band. On Warrior, Corey and D.J. tag team to do some wonderful accompaniment. What I said about the lyrics before was wrong, as they have a link in the liner notes telling people exactly where to go to find lyrics. As the CD goes on, one cant help but notice increasingly more indy-style guitar work, especially in Warrior. One of the best things about Times of Silence is the fact that while the still adhere to the hardcore ideal, each song is a new and exhilarating experience. The Death of a Stand" is one of the most cohesive songs on the disc, with all members playing at their peak efficiency to make a totally enjoyable song. You can even hear the bass playing on this track, as it is simply doing some amazing work, but honestly, how can a bassist nickname Portascotty be bad? "Apolegy for Tradition", which is awesome with haunting female vocals, which give way to a tormented screaming duet which just as quickly becomes docile again. The secret tract is instrumental and sounds very detailed and intricate, a totally delectable treat.
