3 Song EP that was given to me by two members of the band who overheard me ranting about the sad state of Lancasterian music. I think we have a winner of the best band in Lancaster award. In fact the only thing wrong with this tape (Besides recording, as this is a third-generation tape) is the extremely short running time of the tape. This band is a three piece act, being formed of February of this year, and their website is at http://www.sbc-online.20m.com. They are young, but are old enough to drive. There is no easy way to define the vocalist’s tone, as it is just is the oddest, and also one of the best voices I’ve heard in a long time. S.B.C. play a style of punk that is down and dirty, with hastily spat out lyrics and a semi-fast tempo. The first track is an instrumental gateway to the rest of the album that shows the talent of all of the members of S.B.C. The happy sound of the first vocal track is not unlike the style of noFx’s “Timmy The Turtle” minus the bass stylings. The 2nd vocal track definitely has old-school Green Day in its blood, with excellent guitars and drums and the amazing pseudo-nasal stylings of the vocalist. While this review may have a heavy amount of emphasis on the bands that S.B.C. sound like, one must keep in mind the S.B.C. is one of the only things that the ailing Lancaster music scene has going for it so far in 2001 (White Trash’s album is excluded from that statement). Coming out of the darkness of this shitty town like the proverbial “Bat out of hell”, S.B.C. is a band that only can go up from here. It only makes sense that a great band like this comes to my attention less than a month before I move away to college. I do know that this tape will be listened to death.
