Matthew West - Sellout

Matthew was another act that I saw at DePauw, and actually, it was the first concert that I had the distinct please of attending at DePauw. This is a less harsh version of Stephen Curtis Chapman, musically mixed with such acts as Counting Crows, Barenaked Ladies, the Wallflowers, and the like. The lyrical content is very lightly masked Christian pop music, which goes hand in hand with the delightful style of music placed out by Matthew's band. The is definitely a CD that has withstood the test of time, as I continually re-discover the CD, only to have it sit in my CD player for the next few weeks. Matthew is a aberration in the style of music that he plays, as I usually just cannot stomach bands that play this type of pop-rock, but I can honestly say that Matthew, when I actually can find the CD, isone of my favorite acts. Reviewing this CD reminds me that I should check his website, which I am sure is at http://www.matthewwest.com , and see if he has anymore of his delightful music for sale. My favorite song on this disc is "Mr. James", not because it has my first name in the title, but because the instrumentation and lyrics of the music cause some churning in my stomach, and almost causes a tear to fall from my eye. This song is one of the most powerful on the disc, and I believe that if the concert was a little more faith-oriented, it would have moved me to tears. Alas, the concert was grounded in the secular, or was when I got there a few songs into the set.

Rating : 7.4/10.
