Dysphoria-hope without reason.

Its an oldie! (1997). 11 songs on this self-released CD> This band must be huge in hardcore circles, as they have played with such great Hardcore acts like 25 ta life, Hatebreed, and Snapcase. They are a 5 piece hardcore act that isnt afraid to use baselines to their gain, as the bass lines break up the simply brutal guitar riffs laid down. And look, what do we have here? A full set of lyrics on a sheet to my enjoyment. Some of these guitar riffs, aside from the brutal ones I mentioned earlier, are really very complex and deserve to be talked about. Chris drumming is very methodical, yet spontaneous at times. At times Chris can attain the machine gun speed of such legendary bands as Fear Factory and Cannibal Corpse, but he seems to avert the pitfall that both of the other drummers seem to fall into, which is repetitive drumming. While Chris repeats various drum beats throughout a song, he is smart enough to naturally mix different parts, instead off drumming that line into the ground. For this music being so heavy and brutal, the lyrics on some of these songs could have only been written by a true poet. To put it simply, the music doesnt fit the lyrics at all. Aside from the one damn in Hollow Words, the disc is profanity free and instills in one self-actualizing ideas-If one could properly understand the lead singer, which has now left the band. At Says End has one of the more catchy choruses on the CD, in All for nothing, down, down, down with a machine gun drum beat and a hella cool bass solo. This is a true bass solo, with no drums or anything to accompany it. The name f the band literally is the state of being unhappy, and it fits a tad paradoxically, as the album is entitled hope without reason. Start Again has a wonderful beginning guitar riff, and enjoys another catchy chorus. Life:Reloading is an excellent change o the songs, with a 35 second clip from a movie that I havent ever seen. The guitar in this song is splayed at a more alarming pitch. The Rule sees Dysphoria go back to the sound that has dominated the disc up to this point, and Hollow Words increases the tempo by little more to give the song a definitely more thrash metal like feel. Hollow Words also includes another excellent bass line that is barely discernable through the crunchy guitars.
