Simply put, desert city soundtrack create music that is the technical equivalent of a snowstorm. At times fast, at times slow, blowing in from different angles and different speeds, even changing at forms at times, this is the style of the band that has been dubbed post-hardcore. I frequently speak of music that is obviously summertime music, and the tracks on "contents of distraction" completely deconstruct this summertime music, just as winter deconstructs the fruits and leaves of trees. Nothing is more indicative of this style as the final track that is a total breakdown in melody and style in a climax that is most definitely not the apex of rising action. Desert city soundtrack transcends the title of musicians into crossing over with tracks, with pieces as "widow's staircase", which belongs more in a concert hall than a small, cramped concert venue. Through most of the CD, the band plays music that should beyond what four people could humanely play, in making one of the tightest discs that I've ever had the pleasure of reviewing. The entire disc should be taken at one setting, as having a single track on a disc or the ability to download two or three tracks really can't do a band like justice. Piano lines lay down nexts to clashing drums and guitars with the most smooth screaming I've ever heard. I would personally be completely sold on the band if they could do this live. Some of the most amazing albums out have been done by bands that just couldn't cut it live, but I believe that desert city soundtrack would do this disc justice. Pick this up.
