This is the second of my reviews of comics. Being used to zines, I am really not sure on how to accurately review a comic, but I believe that Cat and Girl is excellent. Learning that Cat and Girl is also an online comic was a surprising shock, as this far outpaces such online stalwarts as Diesel Sweeties, Gloom County, or even Sinfest. The comic is very satirical and intellectual, to a level that should be expected from a person taught at Williams. Since each installment of Cat and Girl tackles a different topic, it seems somewhat hard to gain any sort of continuity with the characters. However, sacrificing continuity for more in-depth analysis seems to be a more than equal tradeoff, as both of the main characters are fleshed out with each and every piece. Provided one actually spends some time looking at the collection, one will tend to see a tendency to layer each piece with meaning. Take for example the piece "Cat and Girl drive the Conversation", which has a textual discussion of the dialogic possibilities of a novel in reference to other forms of media, and a visual pun in the last frame, being a bumper sticker. The pun does not need to be disclosed in this review, but can be seen at the comics website or if one wants it in print, to send $1. Support this comic, and it will go even farther ad astra then it has in its past frame of existence. Go to http://www.catandgirl.com.
