Impact Press-#30

Dec-Jan 2001.Normal Size $2 by mail, typical layout. Editors response, letters. Tons of ads are in this magazine, as 3 of the first 6 pages are nothing but them. The magazine has the layout of a magazine with 10 times the readership. Tons of white space are found on every page, but the whiteness is broken up expertly, and doesnt detract from the overall reading experience. A Big Government Scam is a decently written rant about the war on drugs, but Stop Lively Please is much more noteworthy, being very serious yet light hearted about the herd mentality of humanity. The next notable article informs the zine-reading public about the truth concerning the heroes of various sports, putting out a statistic that over 21% were criminals at one time or another. Impact Press choice of ads is a little towards the major punk labels, including ads for the Aquabats, Hopeless Records, and Sick of it All. As a former Ritalin druggie, the piece Have You Had Your Ritalin Today brings the up viewpoints that I have been told are totally unfounded. More Whining From the Left is a funny as hell comic, describing the struggle evidenced by left handed people. Trading with the Enemy is very intelligently written, with an iron curtain of academic correctness, using facts and quotes. Did Jesus Exist?, the cover piece, is an excellent work by Gary Sloan, describing how Jesus was just a culmination of the popular religion of the time. The review comes next, with the top picks smartly bracketed off from the other reviews. Make an Impact on HIV/STDs is a diamond in the rough, as it is hidden away in 4.5 pages of ads.
