Countertheory-Issue #3

Summer/Fall 2000, 5 of the first 6 pages are ads. Typical editor letter, then following that up with 2 pages of ads, the columns, a la Maximum rocknroll, but with a much better layout. Matt Meeps column is a heartwarming piece that shows his recovery from an accident that is not detailed in the column. Adam Woods column is about a college visit to a frat house, and his escapades there. A light-hearted rant is to be found from Brad Bigwheel, about the music that is most perfect to make out to. Rena Ingrams article details her rape and subsequent loss of faith in the hardcore scene. Bully by Adam Wood is an excellent piece of very short fiction, in a pseudo stream of consciousness style. There is an interview with the Promise Ring, short but with very deep and well-meaning questions. The Alkaline Trio is full of more of the very concise and interesting questions. The interviews tend to get a tad bit tiring, as 14 pages of interviews mesh with 4 pages of 20 questions with various heads of record labels. Photographs are an interesting addition to this magazine, as most just have them interspersed in the reviews. Countertheory actually has 2 pages in a row devoted to this purpose. 10 pages of reviews follow, which is a semi-long number, followed by contact info and tons of ads. Asides from the information about the bands on the CD sampler that comes with this issue, the magazine ends off with around 10 pages of ads for 2 pages of text. 2000 copies of this came out with this issue. To get a hold of a copy of it, send $3 to Countertheory, 8608 NW 59 Court, Tamarac FL 33321.
